Key Stats
Los Angeles Dodgers
Freddie Freeman continued his World Series terror as he homered again in the first inning of Game 4. Freeman has four home runs in the series and homered in six straight World Series games. Freeman has driven in 10 runs and hitting .313 in the series. Shohei Ohtani has been a non-factor in the World Series, going 1-4 last night and hitting .214 with one extra-base hit. It is possible, his shoulder injury is affecting him more than the Dodgers are leading on.
Jack Flaherty got the ball in Game 5 for the Dodgers tonight and was very effective in Game 1. Flaherty allowed two earned runs across 5.1 innings and struck out six batters. However, his overall post-season ERA is 6.10, so the Yankees have to feel good about their chances tonight. Not to be lost in all of this was the clever maneuver of Dodger manager Dave Roberts. He did not use any of his top guns out of the bullpen last night. The Yankees will almost certainly face the Los Angeles high-leverage arms in Game 5.
New York Yankees
Anthony Volpe busted out last night and flipped the game with his grand slam in the third inning. Volpe was a huge factor overall in Game 4 with two hits, two stolen bases, and three runs scored. New York is hopeful that Aaron Judge snapped out of his post-season funk last night. Judge went 1-3 with an RBI, SB and a run scored. The Yankees had 11 hits, drew six walks, and wore out the Dodgers bullpen.
Gerrit Cole returns to the bump for Game 5 and needs a performance similar to Game 1. In 88 pitches, Cole tossed 6 innings of 4-hit one-run baseball. Overall this postseason, Cole is pitching to a 2.82 ERA over his four starts.
Prediction
At the books, Los Angeles is seeing 88% of the money bets and the Yankees are seeing 51% of the spread tickets. The Yankees opened up at -150 and the line is creeping down at around -142, but based on our research that is the public grabbing the Dodgers at plus money. The Yankees have the advantage on the mound and the momentum of last night’s win, we will play New York in Game 5.
Final Pick: New York Yankees -142 ML
