Key Stats
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a big win last week against the New York Jets, 28-27. This was Anthony Richardson‘s first game back since being benched the previous two games and he was sensational. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 272 passing yards and a touchdown. Richardson also was dominant on the ground, adding 10 rushes for 32 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winning rushing TD with 51 seconds left.
The receiving trio of Josh Downs, Alec Pierce, and Michael Pittman Jr. combined for 13 catches for 204 yards and a touchdown. As mentioned earlier, Richardson was extremely impressive in this game from what he showed before he was benched.
Defensively, they have been below average. For the season, they rank 19th in points per game, 26th in passing yards allowed per game, 28th in rushing yards allowed per game, 17th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 21st in sacks, and 9th in takeaways per game. Kwity Paye leads the team with 5.5 sacks. This defense is going to have its hands full this week. Going against the number-one-ranked offense in terms of points per game and offensive touchdowns scored. If they can limit the damage done on the ground by Gibbs and Montgomery, that could be the key to a Colts upset.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are coming off a steamrolling win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, 52-6. Jared Goff was excellent, completing 24 of 29 passes for 412 yards and 4 touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown feasted with 11 catches for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jameson Williams was great as well, catching 4 passes for 124 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown.
Both running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs DOMINATED in this game. They combined for 218 yards from scrimmage and 3 touchdowns. This is one of, if not, the best offense in the NFL and they are firing on all cylinders. They are almost unbeatable if they are indoors to utilize their speed.
To match their offense, Detroit’s defense has been excellent this season. They rank 5th in points allowed per game, 27th in passing yards allowed per game, 5th in rushing yards allowed per game, 2nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 14th in sacks, and 4th in takeaways per game. They will be without linebacker Alex Anzalone for the next month with a broken forearm. Terrion Arnold is questionable with a groin injury. If he can’t go, that would be a loss for a defensive backfield that is bottom five in the NFL.
Prediction
The Detroit Lions are going to win this game, but the Indianapolis Colts are going to cover the 7.5-point spread in this game. Richardson showed me a lot last week against the Jets. The Anzalone is a big loss for Detroit. He was their second-leading tackler on the team and was involved in almost every play. I expect Richardson’s mobility to be a big factor in this game. He is a powerful runner and Jonathan Taylor is the X factor in this game. The Detroit Lions win but the Indianapolis Colts cover the 7.5-point spread in this game.
