Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are coming off a win against the Indianapolis Colts last week, 23-20. CJ Stroud played a solid game, completing 25 of 37 passes for 285 yards and a touchdown. This was a costly win though, receiver Stefon Diggs suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. A massive loss for the Texans. Running back Joe Mixon was sensational again for Houston. He had 134 yards from scrimmage, 25 carries for 102 yards and one rushing touchdown. With Nico Collins returning in the next few weeks, this offense needs him sooner rather than later.

The Texans’ defense has been above average all year long. For the season, they rank 15th in points allowed per game, 3rd in passing yards allowed per game, 13th in rushing yards allowed per game, 18th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 4th in sacks, and 9th in takeaways per game. Second-year edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. leads the team with 7.5 sacks. He is turning into the player Houston hoped he would be when they drafted him last year. Lastly, the Texans rank 2nd in tackles for loss per game. If they can force the New York Jets into negative plays, they will be in a good position to win.

New York Jets

The New York Jets are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots last week, 25-23. Aaron Rodgers was good last week, completing 17 of 28 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Garrett Wilson was great with five catches for 113 yards, Davante Adams also in four catches for 54 yards, too. Breece Hall carried the ball 16 times for 80 yards. This offense has the firepower to be an explosive offense, but it all starts with their offensive line. Last week against New England, Rodgers was only sacked one time. If they can keep him upright, the Jets will be in this game.

The Jets’ defense has been above average this season. They rank 11th in points allowed per game, 2nd in passing yards allowed per game, 17th in rushing yards allowed per game, 10th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 6th in sacks, and 25th in takeaways per game. This defense is injured though. They are missing Ashtyn Davis, CJ Mosley, Chuck Clark, and Tony Adams in this game. Those are big losses for a Jets’ defense that has allowed 23+ in four straight games. If this defense can force a turnover or two, they’re averaging .8 takeaways per game, that will be the key, stealing possessions,

Prediction

The Houston Texans are going to defeat the New York Jets in this game. The Texans have the better quarterback and the better team. If you take strength vs strength in this game, Texans’ offense vs Jet’s defense, and consider it a wash. What side would you take? The Texans ‘defense or the Jets’ offense? Houston’s defense ranks 4th in the NFL with 27 sacks and I believe they will get to Rodgers all night long. The New York Jets will live in 2nd and 3rd and long in this game. The Jets’ season has spiraled out of control and I do not believe that Aaron Rodgers is an above-average quarterback anymore. Texans win and Jets fall to 2-7.

Final Pick

Houston Texans ML (+110)
