The Dallas Cowboys are looking to bounce back from last week’s debilitating loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Dallas only lost 28-25 however, they were down 22 points in the third quarter and couldn’t get one more stop in the fourth quarter to give Dak Prescott and their offense a final shot. Prescott was good statistically, 28/51 for 379 and three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). The Cowboys’ offense could not get out of their way until the fourth quarter. Sadly, they created too much of a deficit to climb out of.
Their defense got manhandled for the second consecutive week. Derrick Henry was sensational against the Cowboys’ defense. Henry dominated with 25 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Through three weeks, Dallas is last in the NFL allowing 185.7 rushing yards per game, and 30th in opponent’s points per game with 29.7. They hired Mike Zimmer as their defensive coordinator this past offseason and through three weeks has been terrible. We can see the difference between Zimmer’s defense and Dan Quinn’s defense last season. The score against the Ravens did not reflect what we saw.
New York Giants
The New York Giants are coming off an impressive win against the Cleveland Browns. The Giants appear to have drafted Daniel Jones his number one receiver. Malik Nabers has been a stud for the past two weeks. Against the Browns, he had eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Devin Singletary was good as well. Singletary went for 108 yards from scrimmage, including the 43-yard run to ice the game, and a touchdown. They rank 19th in the NFL in terms of rushing yards per game, (105.0), against the bottom rushing defense in Dallas, it could be the difference in the game if New York can set Jones up with 2nd and shorts.
For as messy as the Giants’ first three games have been, their defense has been good the past two weeks. Holding Washington to seven field goals and Cleveland to 15 points is impressive. Their defensive line has been their defense’s strength. Ranking second in the NFL in sacks (14), New York could be the story of the team. Dallas isn’t a rushing team so if the Giants can hold the Cowboys to 2nd and longs to 3rd and mediums, this pass-rushing unit could get after Dak and in a hurry.
Prediction
I am predicting the Dallas Cowboys to bounce back from their two-game slump, beat the New York Giants, and cover the spread. Historically, this is a matchup the Cowboys have dominated. With a record of 12-2 vs the Giants, Dak Prescott has been elite against this team. Although the Giants’ offensive line was exceptional against the Browns’ front seven, the Cowboys’ pass rush in long downs can be great. After getting embarrassed the past two weeks, Dallas will come out with their hair on fire and cruise to a win. This should be a Prescott-Lamb masterclass and the game could get ugly and in a hurry.
