Key Stats
Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox have been struggling throughout the season and were only able to score one run in the series opener. The team has been struggling and are likely going to be trading away a lot of talent as they are 22.0 games out of a potential playoff spot and lost seven of their last 10 games.
The team does not have a lot of offensive threats but center fielder Tommy Pham has been hitting well with a .981 OPS in his last seven games. The team is giving the ball to rookie right-hander Drew Thorpe, who is coming off of a losing effort against the Arizona Diamondbacks where he only lasted 3.1 innings and gave up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits with five walks and failed to record a strikeout.
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers came into the season with a lot of hype and are struggling a bit as they are five games below .500 entering this game. A big reason for their struggles has been their inability to score many runs and give their pitching staff run support, as evident by Friday’s 2-1 win.
Left fielder Riley Greene is in the midst of a hot streak as he is 9-for-24 with a pair of home runs, seven RBIs and a 4:7 walk-to-strikeout ratio in his last seven games. Veteran righty Kenta Maeda has been struggling throughout the season and he is coming off a losing effort against the Houston Astros. In the game, he allowed four runs on five hits with a pair of walks and one strikeout in five innings on the bump.
Prediction
While the records don’t say so, these teams are a lot more similar than they want to be. Drew Thorpe has an electric arm and should be able to keep the White Sox in the game. Kenta Maeda is pitching to a 5.00 ERA in his three starts in the month of June and Chicago hit him extremely hard in his first start of the season. The White Sox have actually scored three more runs than the Tigers have in the last six games as well. Chicago is due for a win so expect them to take it here.
Final Pick
Chicago White Sox +130
