With the NFL Season being three weeks away, it’s time to discuss who will win the 2024 NFL MVP award. Will Patrick Mahomes win the award for the second time in three years? Can Joe Burrow be the second Cincinnati Bengal to win the MVP award? Will this be the year Josh Allen finally gets over the hump and capture the prize? Let me give you my top five MVP candidates for this upcoming season.
2024 NFL MVP Favorites
Jalen Hurts (+1400 Odds) – I have Jalen Hurts as my fifth favorite to win this year’s MVP award. He has great weapons around him as AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are outstanding receivers. Even with the retirement of center Jason Kelce, they still have two strong tackles. Lastly, they hired Kellen Moore as the new offensive coordinator to call plays. He is primed to have a bounce-back year after a terrible second half of the season and he came second in NFL MVP voting just two years.
Joe Burrow (+1000 Odds) – In fourth, I have Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow. When healthy, Burrow is one of the best QBs in the NFL. This is potentially the last year of the Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins era. If the Bengals can keep him standing, he will be in the MVP conversation for most of his career. The only concerns are health and the division he plays in as the AFC North may be the toughest in the NFL.
Third: C.J. Stroud (+1000 Odds)
Houston Texans’ quarterback CJ Stroud is my third favorite to win this year’s MVP award. We saw him as a rookie lead the Texans to an AFC South division title and a playoff win. With the addition of Stefon Diggs, it will be hard to keep Stroud out of the conversation. If he can continue his growth, he will have his flag planted firmly in the race for the award. His only concern is that he has had one spectacular season and the idea of a sophomore slump.
Second: Patrick Mahomes (+500 Odds)
Coming off winning back-to-back Super Bowls the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the betting favorite to win this year’s MVP. Mahomes is coming off a year where he finished seventh in 2023 NFL MVP voting. With the additions of wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, the Chiefs have brought in a ton of speed which could lead to Mahomes showing off his golden arm that he showed his first year starting when he won his first MVP.
First: Josh Allen (+800)
The Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen is my favorite to win this year’s NFL MVP award. With the Bills trading away star receiver, Stefon Diggs, this puts more on Allen’s shoulders. He is coming off a year where he finished fifth in the voting for MVP and led the NFL in total touchdowns with 44 (29 passing and 15 rushing). We know how dynamic he can be in the running game with his legs, now he has more on his plate with the loss of Diggs.
Final Thoughts
The 2024 NFL MVP race is an exciting thing to follow during the NFL season. I have Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills finally winning it after coming up fifth last season and second in 2020. Who do you guys have winning the MVP award this season? Let me know in the comments!
