I really like taking the Chicago Cubs to win their division. You can get good odds now from FanDuel, and win some nice money. The Cubs seem like a no-brainer pick to me. They brought back their best player from last year Cody Bellinger, while also upgrading the rotation and bullpen. In addition, the St. Louis Cardinals put band-aids on their starting rotation with aging veterans and did not upgrade an already aging position group.
While, the Brewers lost their very good Manager Craig Counsell to their division foes, and traded away their Ace Corbin Burns. Even though the Reds are a young roster with talent, they have had some key injuries this spring and did not make moves that would put them as favorites. The Pirates still have many questions and their pitching staff still is not good.
2nd Bet: New Starting Pitcher Shota Imanaga
Right now, you can get Chicago Cubs SP Shota Imanaga to win NL Rookie of the Year at +1600 on FanDuel. This pick has great value and I really like the pick. This is not your typical rookie who does not have any professional experience playing and also is 30 years old. Shota played in the NPG league and had an ERA under 3.00 five times in his eight years playing in Japan.
This is an experienced veteran pitcher with wipeout stuff and a fastball that plays very well. Plus, he did very well pitching in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. This is a great pick if you want value but also a realistic chance of cashing in.
3rd Bet: Christopher Morel Home Runs for Chicago Cubs
Right now, you Christopher Morel’s Home Run line is set at O/U 25.5 at -120 for the over. I really like the chances of this to hit. Last year in 2023 he hit a combined 37 Home Runs in the majors and at Triple-A. Morel will see plenty of at-bats whether he is the every day 3B or DH. He has massive HR potential in this league.
So far this spring, Morel has also shown an ability to lay off pitches out of the zone. These signs are encouraging as his chase rate was high last year. With a huge season potentially, Morel could easily lead the Chicago Cubs in Home Runs.
