Key Stats

The Texas Longhorns cruised to an opening win in Week 1 of the season, crushing the Colorado State Rams by a score of 52-0. This was no surprise as the Longhorns came into this game as a significant favorite and came into this season with plenty of National Championship hopes.

The Longhorns used a balanced attack against the Rams, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, who threw for 260 yards on 20 of 27 passing. As for their rushing offense, the Longhorns torched the Rams, generating 190 yards. Nine players had at least one carry, led by Jerrick Gibson, who had 67 yards on ten carries and one touchdown.

More notably, their defense allowed just 192 total yards, an area where they have struggled in recent seasons. That said, the Longhorns will need to remain at a high level defensively if they expect to be competitive in this game and the SEC.

The Michigan Wolverines started their National Championship defense with a 30-10 win against the Fresno State Bulldogs in Week 1. While this was a fairly easy win, the Wolverines did show signs of struggle under new head coach Sherrone Moore.

Michigan only generated 269 yards of total offense, and starting quarterback Davis Warren threw for just 118 yards on 15 of 25 passing, one touchdown, and one interception. They did, however, have a solid day on the ground, led by running back, Kalel Mullings, who rushed for 92 yards on 15 carries.

Despite a lackluster day from their offense, Michigan’s defense rose to the challenge, allowing 244 yards of total offense and just 9 yards rushing. This defensive performance, and more notably, the 86-yard interception returned for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, effectively sealed the game for the Wolverines.

Prediction

This Week 2 matchup will be a huge away test for Texas, but because they already looked to be in midseason form in Week 1, while Michigan showed some alarming struggles, backing the Longhorns to win convincingly and cover the spread of -7.5 (-105) will be our best bet for Saturday afternoon.

Final Pick

Texas Longhorns -7.5 (-105)
