TCU comes into this tournament after a fairly mediocre regular season. However, the Big 12 has been regarded as the best conference in the nation so the Frogs are here as a 9 seed after going 9-9 in conference play. They are led by Emanuel Miller (15.9 PPG) and Jameer Nelson Jr. (11.3 PPG). TCU is in its third straight NCAA tournament, where in the previous two they won their opening-round matchup.
Utah State Aggies
Utah State is coming off their best regular season in program history after winning their 1st outright Mountain West regular season title. The Aggies find themselves in the dance for the third time in the last four tournaments. However, Utah State has not been able to advance past the round of 64 in any of those tournament appearances. The Aggies are led by Mountain West player of the year forward Great Osobor (18 PPG, 9.2 RPG).
Game Prediction
In this matchup, we get a top-notch mid-major team against a solid power conference team. I’m a sucker for these Mountain West teams and while they haven’t had a great tournament showing thus far, I’m not giving up on them just quite yet. Utah State was very unseeded and TCU has been up and down all season. It should be a good game, but give me the points with the Aggies.
