TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Longhorns: Will TCU win the Lone-Star State Battle?

The 25th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs (16-5) host the Texas Longhorns (14-7). Nothing is final at this point in the season. However, these are two important games for both teams. The Big 12 remains as one of the stronger conferences in basketball, also dropping many more games will put you in a tough situation.

A win for either team could further provide a boost to spark a good close to Big 12 play. Both teams have March Madness aspirations. And the experts project them to both make the tournament. But a strong performance and quality win will prove useful.

TCU Horned Frogs

This TCU Horned Frogs team is on a three-game winning streak. However, they are winners only once out of their last two home games. Also, their most recent home loss came in a bitter one-point loss to Iowa State. But they followed that up by defeating Texas Tech by seven after a mini-road spurt.

Regardless, they can score on you. Additionally, Trevian Tennyson has led the way as of late. The senior guard has scored at least 15 points in four of their last five games. If he can get going for the TCU Horned Frogs, especially from three, look out!

Texas is on a two-game losing streak, but one of those was an impressive overtime loss against a great Houston team. They have split their last two road games, including a 12-point letdown against BYU. However, against good competition, they haven’t been able to match up with the other teams. Although against ranked opponents, Baylor and Oklahoma, they were able to pull off resume-building wins. They will need to execute better on the offensive end than what they have been to pull off another upset against the TCU Horned Frogs.

Max Abmas has been their most consistent scoring option, but his last road game saw him only score 12 points against BYU. He will need to get it going offensively despite this and make the TCU Horned Frogs guards work on the defensive end of the court.

Game Prediction:

The Texas Longhorns have been too inconsistent for me to take them against the TCU Horned Frogs. Also, TCU moves the ball around better and can hunker down defensively. On the other hand, Texas will too often fall into isolation ball, leaving teammates having a hard time finding a rhythm. Despite having one less day of rest, I think TCU will be able to not only win but cover. Despite the public reputation, do not be surprised if TCU can run away with this game. Both teams can score, and defensive lapses are very likely throughout the game, but in the end, I think TCU is more put together at this point in the season.
