Super Bowl LIX Odds: Surprising Early Favorite for 2025

Super Bowl LVIII - Host Committee Handoff Press Conference

With Super Bowl LVIII all wrapped up, the odds for next year’s big game are out for many of the major sports books like DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetRivers, and bet365. Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana will host Super Bowl LIX and it will have lofty expectations in comparison to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Surprisingly, the runner-up San Francisco 49ers are the consensus favorites over the back-to-back Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The dynamic core trio of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce are all slated to be back next season. The Chiefs are second at ranges between +650 and +750, while the 49ers are at the top at ranges between +450 and +550.

The same thing can’t be said for San Francisco, as this loss of 22-25 in overtime makes Kyle Shanahan 0-3 in the Super Bowl. This includes one loss when he was an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons in the infamous 25-point blown lead against the New England Patriots in 2017.

This makes it his second with the 49ers, after blowing a 10-point lead again.

The Chiefs came back from a deficit again, while playing against the same team back in 2020 with the 49ers. Kansas City rewrote history by winning back-to-back Super Bowls, something that the Patriots hadn’t done since the peak Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era in 2003-2004.

Who Can Dethrone the Current Conference Champs?

Which other teams have the best shot at overtaking either team in each conference based on the sportsbooks?

Here are the most likely candidates to dethrone them, other than the two that were featured in Super Bowl LVIII.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are currently third in the pecking order for Super Bowl odds (between +850 and +1100).

After winning his second MVP, Lamar Jackson will be looking to get a different accolade next season after leading his team to 13 wins this past year. At age 27, Jackson is in rare company as the youngest to win two MVPs. Only Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers sport two MVPs among active NFL quarterbacks. A Super Bowl LIX appearance (along with a potential win) would cement his greatness even further. The narrative of winning playoff games under John Harbaugh didn’t dissipate after their loss to the Chiefs in the AFC title game.

Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen and the Bills will look to get revenge against the Chiefs next season, especially in the playoffs. Buffalo is a close fourth place in odds, at +1000 to +1200 for most sports books. With Joe Brady back for another year and players projected to be healthy on defense, Sean McDermott will look to get another AFC East title. That is only if they can limit the turnovers and find another playmaker on offense to pair with Stefon Diggs.

Detroit Lions

The Dan Campbell-led Lions team is right after the Bills in odds at +1200 and +1300 at worst. Injuries also plagued their defense but with their offense coordinator Ben Johnson and key pieces retained, Detroit should see another playoff berth next season. With more potential additions on defense that are led by Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit should be able to run it back for another year at least if their offensive line is stable.

Other Favorites to Win Super Bowl LIX

Other teams that deserve some recognition include the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Green Bay Packers in that order.

Joe Burrow‘s health at the moment is a good sign for Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals, while Tua Tagovailoa will look to repeat last season’s success with Tyreek Hill. Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott, along with their head coaches, will have playoff narratives to override regardless of regular season success. Jordan Love and the Packers’ quick rise was a surprise last year in the playoffs, and with that young of a team, they should be able to do it again and then some.

With the offseason coming up, along with Free Agency in March and the NFL Draft in April, many things can change up until the start of the 2024 NFL season for these teams.
