Key Stats
San Antonio Spurs
In his lone appearance, the No. 4 overall pick, Stephon Castle, scored 22 points, had four assists, and had five rebounds. However, the former UConn Huskies player has been sidelined since his first appearance with a listed ankle injury. Meanwhile, Jamaree Bouyea, through four games, has averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 rebounds.
Toronto Raptors
Jamal Shead is averaging 5.8 PPG through four games. Furthermore, he’s dishing out 3.3 assists as well as grabbing 3.3 rebounds. Meanwhile, Jamison Battle is pitching in 8.0 points per contest through the same number of games played. It is worth noting that he is shooting 55% from the field. The former Ohio State Buckeye is contributing 1.3 assists as well as 1.0 rebounds.
Prediction
This game is expected to be close for a reason. Both sides have shown glimpses of Summer League promise. However, they’ve been mostly inconsistent. If anything, they have erred on the side of lacking offensive flow while giving up too many cheap baskets at the other end. As previously mentioned, both the Spurs and Raptors are playing in this game due to their lack of winning habits in Vegas, as proven by each of their latest large defeats.
Because lack of winning patterns has been the established norm, it’s early impossible to be able to pick a clear-cut pick against the spread, let alone an outright winner. This game could be one of the better performances for either team, but it could just as easily be a complete letdown in terms of being able to keep this one within striking distance. In other words, either San Antonio or Toronto could come out and play really well or lay an equally unimpressive head-scratching performance.
Therefore, I am staying away from that aspect entirely and am instead going with the over. Both defenses have been atrocious, allowing over 83 points per game to their opponents. Regardless of who shows up today, easy scoring opportunities off sloppy play are going to be a reality, particularly in transition. Only one team needs to play well, and the losing side will not have much scoring to do in order to help push this point total past 172.5.
