San Francisco Giants @ Seattle Mariners Strong Preview, Prediction, & Odds | August 24th, 2024

San Francisco Giants vs Washington Nationals 4/9/2024

The San Francisco Giants are taking on the Seattle Mariners in game two of their three-game series today. In last night’s game one, we saw the Mariners walk off the Giants thanks to a game-winning single in the bottom of the tenth inning thanks to shortstop Leo Rivas. Blake Snell has been named the probable pitcher for San Francisco. Meanwhile, for Seattle, George Kirby has been named the starting pitcher. With both teams needing to stack up wins to have any aspirations for the playoffs, this should be an epic game. Let’s dive straight into it!

The San Francisco Giants have been a solid team this season. With a record of 65-65, they currently sit 4th in the National League Western Division. Blake Snell has been named the probable pitcher in this game. He has been on fire, pitching seven consecutive quality starts, he has only allowed six runs throughout that stretch.

Over those seven games, he has a hit-to-strikeout ratio of 19 hits to 57 Ks. You cannot say enough about the job he has done. For his career, he has held the Seattle batters to a batting average of .226, 19/84 overall with 24 Ks and one home run. Snell against the highest strikeout team in the MLB should be a recipe for success.

To turn to the Giants’ offense, they have been middle of the pack this season, ranking 16th in batting average, 15th in total runs, 14th in OPS, and 19th in home runs. Third baseman Matt Chapman leads the team in home runs (20), tied for first in RBIs (62), and is third on the team in batting average (.243). He is looking for his first hit of the series after going 0/4 last night with two strikeouts. Shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald is also looking to bounce back after going 0/5 last night with four strikeouts. San Fran is four games back of a wildcard spot behind the Braves and needs to close the gap sooner rather than later.

Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are sitting with a record of 65-64 for the season and currently sit 2nd in the American League Western Division. Although they have a record of 2-8 in their last ten games, George Kirby is looking to turn their fortunes around. He is coming off his 9th win of the year against the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he pitched six innings while only giving up two runs and striking out five batters.

Kirby ranks 3rd in the MLB in terms of strikeout-to-walk ratio at 7.79. Seattle’s defense has been excellent this season. They are first in the MLB when it comes to runs allowed, opponent batting average, total bases allowed, and on-base plus slugging against.

Now let’s turn to the offensive side of Seattle. They have been one of the worst offenses in the MLB, statistically. They rank 27th in total runs scored, 28th in OPS, last in batting average, 29th in total bases, and are number one in the MLB when it comes to hitter strikeouts. They are led by centerfielder Julio Rodriguez. He leads the team in batting average (.258), OBP (.311), and hits (109). He and star teammate Randy Arozarena are looking for their first hits of the series after combining 0/8 with three strikeouts.

Prediction

I am predicting that the San Francisco Giants will defeat the Seattle Mariners in this game. Blake Snell has been an animal over the past seven games, and I expect it to continue. Seattle is the best team in the MLB in terms of hitting strikeouts which should be writing on the wall for another quality start. I don’t expect that one of the worst offenses, that Seattle possesses, will be able to generate enough through the first six or seven innings to keep up with the Giants in this game.

Final Pick

San Francisco Giants ML (-112)
