The San Francisco Giants are hosting the Colorado Rockies in the last game of their four game series. The Giants are coming off yesterday in which they beat the Rockies in both games of their double header games. Their pitching was sensational as Blake Snell set a career high 15 Ks in the first game in six shutout innings. Key Stats
San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants have been an exceptional team at home, with a record of 31-22. Jordan Hicks will be taking the mound in today’s matchup. He has held Rockies batters to a .235 batting average in his career, 16/68 overall with 11 Ks and only giving up one home run. With a record of 4-7, Hicks will look to have a bounce back performance after picking up losses in four of the last five games he has pitched.
Offensively the Giants are lead by Matt Chapman, who leads the team in batting average, hits, OBP, and home runs. After going hitless in game one of the series, he has picked up his offense, he picked up four hits in eight at bats, including a home run. The offense has been clicking against the Rockies, as they hold a run differential of 20-5 over the first three games of the series.
Colorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies have been flatly terrible away from home this season. With a record of 14-39 on the road and 38-68 overall, they can’t seem to get anything going, losing four of the last five games with a run differential of 33-25 with 20 of their runs coming in their only win over that stretch. Austin Gomber is expected to take the mound for the Rockies. In his career he has allowed the Giants batters to hit .281, 38-135 overall with 23 Ks. They are going to need a masterclass to pull this game out and avoid the sweep.
Their offense needs to pick up on the road averaging only 3.60 runs on the road. They need a big game from their power hitters Brenton Doyle, Michael Toglia, and Ezequiel Tovar who are all tied for the team lead with 17 home runs. This has been a team who is 13th overall in homeruns and middle of the pack statistically on the offensive side of the ball. This team has almost nothing to play for but for pride this late in the season.
Prediction
I am picking the San Francisco Giants will cruise to another multi run win over the Colorado Rockies. This is a team in the Rockies that don’t have anything to play for at this stage with their win differential being -30 and with the Giants being only two games out of a wildcard spot in the National League, the Giants can’t allow these games to slip away. They complete the sweep and keep their season moving past the Rockies.
Final Pick
San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+102)
