Key Stats
San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants have played solid baseball over their previous ten games. With a record of 7-3, they currently sit fourth in the National League West Division and are 4.5 games out of a wild card spot. Blake Snell is expected to take the Giants’ mound this afternoon and has been on fire the past two games. Over the last two games, he has pitched 15 innings with 26 Ks, and has not allowed an earned run, including throwing his first career no-hitter in his last game. Snell is starting to pick his pitching up and looking to help the Giants close the gap in the National League Playoff race.
As for the offense of the Giants, look no further than third baseman Matt Chapman. He leads the team in batting average (.243), HRs (18), RBIs (54), OBP (.333), hits (103), and stolen bases (12). San Fran has scored four or more runs in four of the last five games, including four straight. In their previous series against the Cincinnati Reds, they won the series with a run differential of 15-8. Although they have been a middle-of-the-pack offense all season, if they want to make a playoff push, they are going to need to heat up.
Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals have been a subpar team this season. With a record of 4-6 over their last ten games, they currently sit fourth in the National League East Division. Jake Irvin is expected to take the mound for the Nats this afternoon. Irvin has a record of 8-9 on the season and against the Giants’ batters, he has held them to a batting average of .205, (9-for-44) with 14 strikeouts and a pair of home runs. Washington is going to need Irvin to be sharp to pull out a win.
Their young star shortstop CJ Abrams leads the way for the Nationals offensively. Abrams leads the team in HRs (17), RBIs (57), and hits (107). In yesterday’s game, CJ went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. He also had help from catcher Keibert Ruiz. Ruiz went 3-for-5 with a home run. The two power hitters are going to need to keep their bats hot in this game if they want to defeat the San Francisco Giants and Blake Snell.
Prediction
This should be a no-brainer that I am picking the San Francisco Giants to defeat the Washington Nationals in this game. The biggest reason is Blake Snell. Over his last four starts, he has pitched four quality starts and only given up two earned runs in those four games, with 38 strikeouts. I expect him to stay hot and the Giants offense put up four runs in the first inning in yesterday’s game and blew it. Under Snell, that will not happen.
Final Pick
San Francisco Giants ML (-154)
