Key Stats

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are coming off getting beat by the New York Jets 24-3 last Thursday. Against New York, the Pats offense was dreadful. They only tallied 139 yards of total offense. 2/11 on 3rd down, and 19:56 minutes in time of possession.

Jacoby Brissett would get pulled for rookie quarterback Drake Maye in the fourth quarter. Demario Douglas had a nice game, catching seven balls for 78 yards. Rhamondre Stevenson had a night he would like to forget. He only had six carries for 23 yards and was limited due to an injury he suffered in the first quarter.

Their defense, however, has been the reason two of their three games have been close. Despite giving up a season-high 24 points to the Jets, they still rank 10th in points allowed per game (19) and 5th in rushing yards allowed (83). This defense has not given up a 55-yard rusher yet. It will be difficult against a run-first Kyle Shanahan offense. Jordan Mason has had at least 77 rushing yards in every game so something has to give.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers want to get the bad taste of defeat out of their mouth that they suffered last week against the Los Angeles Rams. Against the Rams, Brock Purdy was very good, completing 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns.

Without Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, Jauan Jennings had his best game in his career, catching 11 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. With Samuel being hurt, San Fran is going to need more from Brandon Aiyuk. He only caught five passes for 48 yards. If the Pats can limit Jordan Mason‘s rushing yards, the 9ers are going to need Purdy to be just as good as he was last week.

Despite the numbers, the 49ers defense is very talented. Statistically, they are 21st in points allowed per game (23), 20th in passing yards allowed per game (217.7), and 9th in rushing yards allowed per game (104). They are led by Fred Warner who leads the team with 13 solo tackles and Nick Bosa who didn’t have a sack last week. This is a prideful team and they should look to wreak havoc on a poor Patriots offense.

Prediction

The San Francisco 49ers are going to beat the brakes off the New England Patriots. It’s a bad matchup for the Pats. This is a coaching and team mismatch. Brock Purdy will be excellent as he was last week, and Jacoby Brissett will be forced to play from behind which could lead to turnovers against that 9ers ferocious front seven. After blowing a 14-point lead, the 49ers will come back with a vengeance in this game. Plain and simple, this is a beatdown waiting to happen.

Final Pick

San Francisco 49ers -10.5 (-105)
