Key Stats
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers lost their previous game against the Minnesota Vikings. They are going to be without Deebo Samuel in this game against the Rams. He was diagnosed with a calf injury after the game against Minnesota. Quarterback Brock Purdy, who currently leads the NFL in passing yards, had a good game last week. He completed 28 of 35 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Runningback Jordan Mason, who is playing because Christian McCaffrey is on IR, has been sensational, first in the NFL in carries per game and second in total rushing yards. Expect him to continue his strong season.
As for the defense, they played two strong games against the Jets and the Vikings, holding them to 19 and 23 points. This is a defense led by all-pro linebacker Fred Warner and former defensive player of the year Nick Bosa. They are going against a team that is missing their top two receivers this week, so they should have an easier task ahead of them. This unit ranks middle of the pack statistically, however, it is still early in the season.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams got stomped last week against the Arizona Cardinals and have started 0-2 for the first time since 2011. Last week Matthew Stafford couldn’t get anything going. He completed 19 of his 27 passes for 216 yards and no touchdowns. It is going to be difficult this week, he will be without his top two wide receivers, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. This Rams offense is 31st in the NFL when it comes to rushing yards per game. They will need to lean on the running game as injury-riddled as they are. They have an uphill battle this week, but if anyone can do it, the Rams can.
The Los Angeles Rams defense has been dreadful through two games. They rank 31st in opponent points per game, 30th in rushing yards allowed per game, and 30th in offensive touchdowns allowed. LA will be without defensive back John Johnson III who is injured with a shoulder injury. This game is going to be hard for the Rams to overcome all their injuries.
Prediction
The San Francisco 49ers are going to beat the breaks off the Los Angeles Rams in this game. LA flatly has too many injuries, down their two best receivers, multiple offensive linemen, and a starting DB. They just have the injury bug. The Rams struggle against the run and the 49ers are a run-first team and San Fran’s defense should show out in this game just like they did in week one.
Final Pick
San Francisco 49ers -7 (-115)
