San Diego State Aztecs vs Yale Bulldogs Game Preview, Prediction, Odds | March 24, 2024

San Diego State

The five-seed San Diego State Aztecs (25-10) face off against the 13-seed Yale Bulldogs (23-9) in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. As part of the East Region, the game will take place in Spokane, Washington on Sunday at 9:40 PM ET. San Diego State outlasted UAB in their tight first-round win, while Yale stunned fourth-ranked Auburn in one of the biggest upsets of the first slate of games.

Can the Ivy League underdogs pull off another shocker, or will SDSU end the dream run in the Round of 32?

Key Stats

San Diego State Aztecs

San Diego State is led by Senior Forward Jaedon LeDee. He led the team in both scoring and rebounding in the regular season with 21.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. The TCU transfer came up huge in the Aztecs’ win against UAB, finishing with 32 points and 8 boards on 11-18 shooting. LeDee was one of only two players who scored double digits in the first round, so he’ll need to stay hot against Yale.

Yale Bulldogs

Unlike the top-heavy Aztecs, Yale is normally an extremely balanced scoring team. Five players averaged over 10 points in the regular season, led by Danny Wolf at 14.3 ppg. That wasn’t the case in Round 1, where Junior Guard John Poulakidas went off for a heroic 28 points and shot 6-9 from three. With multiple lock-down defenders on the Aztecs, the key will be returning to that balanced attack in Round 2.

Game Prediction

As we noted in our Round 1 preview, San Diego State is one of the most experienced teams in the tourney and led by four seniors returning from a run to the NCAA Championship Game last year. While Yale made serious noise with their upset of Auburn, the collective experience and red-hot shooting of Jaedon LeDee will prove too much for the Bulldogs. I think San Diego State ends Yale’s run and sets themselves up for a potential 2023 Championship Game rematch against UConn in the Sweet 16.

Final Pick

San Diego State -5.5 and Over 128.5
