San Antonio Spurs (11-46) take on the Utah Jazz (26-31) in Salt Lake City. Both sides are below .500 so they look to get a win here. Additionally, both are on a losing streak. Therefore something is going to give today. The hosts ride a five-game skid. Meanwhile, the visitors lost three in a row.
However, since the All-Star Break gives teams new hope to refocus and play better, they both want to end the season stronger. Although this is expected to be a comfortable win for the hosts, the visitors will look to right the ship. Especially as they’ve let a couple of late games get away from them recently.
But do you see tonight being a close game?

San Antonio is building around Victor Wembanyama. But their other players are starting to learn how to play with him. Being a European basketball player, he often looks to pass first. Although, he is taking more people on a winning as of late as well. Regardless, Coach Gregg Popovich knows who the future is going to be centered around. But he’s made it clear that it will be a process and that the San Antonio Spurs do not want to rush things. Additionally, after experimenting at point guard, Jeremy Sochan is looking more comfortable in his natural position. He had 15 points and 13 rebounds, while often guarding LeBron James.
But losing close, or keeping it tight continues to bother this group. even if the games are tighter than expected, the players want to see results and they want to see them now. Now facing the Utah Jazz on the road, the San Antonio Spurs want to eclipse them in a season or two. However, for tonight, it may be closer than what some are expecting.

Utah is not in good form. Although they have good options on their roster, they haven’t put it together. However, they sit four games back of the Golden State Warriors and grab the final play-in spot. While the Bay Area team may not fall, others above them potentially could. Realistically, it may be too late, but a strong finish could see them potentially compete for a first-round slot.
Their last loss came against the Charlotte Hornets. Lauri Markkanen remains their most consistent scoring option. And he should be able to find switches that he likes tonight. Additionally, Jordan Clarkson came off the bench against Charlotte and gave a 15-point boost from his reserve role. But Collin Sexton needs to take advantage of the San Antonio Spurs backcourt defensively today and have a big impact game for the Jazz.

Game Prediction
I see this game playing out closer than what the oddsmakers expect. Yes, the Utah Jazz can very easily win tonight. But the San Antonio Spurs are likely to make this a game down the stretch. Therefore, I think picking the visitors against the spread is the better move here. San Antonio winning outright wouldn’t be too surprising but covering seven points is a no-brainer.
Furthermore, the Over is a safe bet tonight as well. Especially with the offensive matchups on both sides. The Utah Jazz should get the looks they want. But the Spurs have the ultimate matchup nightmare for any opposing team. Although you’re more worried about the visitors scoring enough to get the points total over than anything else. However, if the perimeter players get even a little hot tonight, the San Antonio Spurs should be able to help push that Over.
Final Pick
San Antonio Spurs +7 and Over 240
