San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Lakers Preview, Prediction and Odds| February 23 2024

San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama

San Antonio Spurs (11-45) travel to the Los Angeles Lakers (30-27) for the last game of a Friday NBA slate. Despite having significantly different records, this game may be up for grabs. Both teams are coming off a game and despite the All-Star Break, a key player missed the first game back. Additionally, the season series is tied between these two.

The first match saw today’s home side steal a three-point victory on the road. However, in the more recent rematch, today’s visitors defended their home turf. But with a change of venues and being post the All-Star Break, anything is possible.

Do you see a potential path for a double-digit underdog winning tonight?

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio has a bright future ahead. Although their record suggests another top pick later this year, there’s plenty of room for optimism. But there are more likely to be tougher days ahead than wins for this franchise. Despite Victor Wembanyama so far living up to the hype, there have been numerous ugly losses. In fact, he’s not the main issue. Despite having a great coach in Gregg Popovich, it’s been the overall lack of development from other stars that is worrisome. For example, Devin Vassell is coming on a bit more as of late. But Keldon Johnson needs to take the next step in his development before we see the San Antonio Spurs win on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, the Lakers hope to get a win against the San Antonio Spurs. Especially after last night’s loss without LeBron James, they need tonight. Moreover, Anthony Davis continues the trend of having some individual good numbers but is unable to lead those stats into winning basketball games. Especially as James continues to age, he needs to eventually take the torch. The Los Angeles Lakers are counting on him to step up as a leader, regardless of how much he loses his voice.

Game Prediction

This line is too high, despite what the general public and oddsmakers think. Although the Los Angeles Lakers are far ahead of the San Antonio Spurs, tonight should be a close one. In fact, usually, the Lakers play well against weaker competition. But today has trap game written all over it. While James sat out last night, the rest of his teammates didn’t. Therefore, I see the Spurs not only covering but winning outright. Even if you view that as too risky, taking the underdogs to keep the game within the spread is the safe smart move. However, I see the Lakers letting this game go and falling to 0-2 after the All-Star Break. Additionally, I see the offenses sputtering enough to make the total go under the expected amount. Ultimately, the San Antonio Spurs get enough stops tonight to get the win.
