The San Antonio Spurs (11-43) travel to play the Dallas Mavericks (31-23) in a Texas showdown. The Homeside has controlled in regular season series so far. In the two games, the Mavs won 126-119 and 144-119 respectively. While it’s odd that one side scored identical amounts of points twice, one aspect remains very normal. The home team has an incredible on-court product. But the visitors bring star power of their own. In something of a European face-off in Texas, it will be interesting to see how these two match up against each other. But the Spurs are considerable underdogs, even with a generational talent.
However, do you see the away team pulling within double-digits to close today’s game?

San Antonio looks to gain momentum heading into the All-Star Break. Although their record is poor, this would be a good win. Especially in the earlier parts of the season, they have looked completely overwhelmed. Especially against teams with winning records, they often looked out of place. But making the scoreline respectable and at least getting this game within 6 points would be something of a win for this team.
The San Antonio Spurs have one of the greatest emerging talents in the world. Although the narratives surrounding Victor Wembanyama can be hyperbolic, at times he makes it seem less so. However, casual fans may not be as familiar with Devin Vassell. He’s a proven scoring threat and balances the offense. Additionally, Keldon Johnson is someone who can have a good scoring night during any given game.

Regardless of anything else, Luka Doncic remains one of the premiere scorers. Therefore it’s hard to see who on the San Antonio Spurs will match up with him defensively. However, even their best defender, Wembanyama, struggles with lateral quickness against the Slovenian great. Additionally, they have Kyrie Irving. Not always the case, but when available few can score like he does.
While Dallas likely wins this game comfortably, the spread remains a question. Tonight the Mavericks may give up a few more points than the traditional 119. Although it’s doubtful that they will have any troubles on the other end. Regardless of how close it may or may not be at the end, Dallas looks to hand the San Antonio Spurs one final loss before the All-Star Break.
Game Prediction
This San Antonio Spurs team is young and not likely close to competing until they add a few more pieces. But for one night, they can keep [ it closer than 11 against a gifted Dallas Mavericks team. The point total is right where it should be, but I’m still leaning over. Even if the Spurs get some early stops, the Mavericks most likely force this game into a mid-120s shootout.
Final Pick
San Antonio Spurs +11 and Over 242
