San Antonio Brahmas
The Brahmas shocked many people by not only winning last week but dominating the game. With a completely new coaching staff and quarterback, many thought it would take a week or two to get this team up to speed. Their defense was the most impressive part which isn’t surprising given Wade Phillips is at the helm.
While the focus was on the defense, it is worth noting that new quarterback Chase Garbers had an efficient day going 19-for-25 for 156 yards with two touchdowns. He added another touchdown on the ground.
Memphis Showboats
The Showboats had one of the best offseasons. They completely remade their team, and their hard work paid off. The new quarterback, Case Cookus, looked comfortable on offense, but it was the defense that won the day. If there was a concern for the Showboats, it would be their abysmal performance on the ground.
They only had 32 yards on 19 carries, which is less than two yards per carry. It won’t get any easier against a tough run defense of the Brahmas.
Game Prediction
This game involves two teams who won last week because of a suffocating defense. Each team had four sacks in their respective games and held their opponents to under 50 rushing yards. Last week, I miscalculated the impact that the coaching change from Hines Ward to Wade Phillips would have had. Paired with a devastating run defense and an improved offense, I like the Brahmas to win and cover. With the defenses on both sides of the ball, the under is a good bet as well.
