Key Stats
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off one of their more impressive wins of the season. They defeated the Baltimore Ravens 18-16 without scoring a touchdown. Russell Wilson played his worst game as a Steeler, completing 23 of 26 passes for 205 yards, and an interception. George Pickens continued his dominant play with 8 catches for 89 yards.
Runningbacks Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren were great on the ground for Pittsburgh. They had a combined 27 carries for 104 yards. Offensively, they left much to be desired in the passing game against the worst pass defense in the NFL. However, they did enough to get the win.
Defensively, what more can I say about this team? They held the number one offense to 16 points. On the season, they rank 2nd in points allowed per game, 18th in passing yards allowed per game, 4th in rushing yards allowed per game, 2nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 18th in sacks, and 3rd in takeaways per game. Patrick Queen was everywhere in his first game against his former team with 10 total tackles, a forced fumble, and a recovery. TJ Watt was his usual dominant self with 2 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass defended, and 2 QB hits. This is one of the best defenses in the NFL.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are coming off a tough loss against the New Orleans Saints last week, 35-14. Jameis Winson put up monster stats in this game. He completed 30 of 46 passes for 395 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jerry Jeudy was excellent with 6 catches for 142 yards and a touchdown. Nick Chubb only had 11 carries but rushed for 50 yards (4.5 YPC). Overall, this offense has been poor this season. They are ranked 31st in points per game, 20th in passing yards per game, 29th in rushing yards per game, 30th in offensive touchdowns scored, 32nd in yards per play, and 14th in turnovers per game.
Statistically, this defense has been pad, outside of rushing the passer. They rank 24th in points allowed per game, 16th in passing yards allowed per game, 24th in rushing yards allowed per game, 24th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 8th in sacks, and 30th in takeaways per game. Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward are questionable for this game. If they can’t play this week, those are two massive losses for a Browns’ defense that isn’t good to begin with. We just saw them allow Derek Carr to have his best game of the season and Taysom Hill ran wild on them.
Prediction
The Pittsburgh Steelers will defeat the Cleveland Browns and cover the 3.5-point spread in this game. To put it simply, the Browns are a bad team. Their offense has been a dumpster fire all season long. Despite people thinking this could be a “trap game”, I believe the Steelers know what is in front of them. This team is focused and poised to make a playoff push for seeding and be one of the best teams in the AFC. I expect a Russell Wilson that is more focused and will take advantage of a defense that has been underperforming this season.
