Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their bye week last week. However, they won their last game against the New York Giants, 26-18. Russell Wilson continued his exceptional play, completing 20 of 28 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown.

Najee Harris had his 3rd straight 100+ yard rushing performance with 114 yards on the ground on 19 carries. George Pickens had another good game, catching four passes for 74 yards. With the addition of wide receiver Mike Williams at the trade deadline, that adds another weapon to an offense that has been clicking over the past three weeks.

The Steelers’ defense has been one of the best defenses in the NFL. They rank 2nd in points allowed per game, 21st in passing yards allowed per game, 4th in rushing yards allowed per game, 2nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 17th in sacks, and 4th in takeaways.

TJ Watt leads the team with 6.5 sacks and has his name in the Defensive Player of the Year race as usual. This defense received more edge rusher help with the addition of Preston Smith at the trade deadline. Something the Steelers have always had is a plethora of edge rushers.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders are coming off a win last week against the New York Giants, 27-22. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was solid again, completing 15 of his 22 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Runningback Austin Ekeler stepped up in Brian Robinson Jr‘s absence with 83 yards from scrimmage, 42 rushing and 41 receiving.

He also scored a rushing touchdown. Terry McLaurin was held in check yards-wise with only two catches for 19 yards, however, he scored two touchdowns on his two catches. This has been one of the best offenses in the NFL through nine weeks as they are top three in points per game, yards per play, and running yards per game.

The Commander’s defense has been above average this season under new head coach Dan Quinn. They rank 11th in points allowed per game, 5th in passing yards allowed per game, 29th in rushing yards allowed per game, 18th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 12th in sacks, and 21st in takeaways per game.

This defense should get better as well. They traded for cornerback Marshon Lattimore at the trade deadline from the Saints. He is questionable to play in this game, dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Prediction

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to upset the Washington Commanders in this game. This is essentially a playoff game with both teams only having two losses. One of the best offenses against one of the best defenses. Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin has a record of 25-6 vs rookie quarterbacks. I expect Jayden Daniels to look how he has over the past two weeks, solid but not exceptional. Najee Harris should feast against a bottom-three rushing defense and has a chance to extend his 100-rushing-yard streak to four games. Lastly, Russell Wilson will continue his solid performances since being named the starter as the Pittsburgh Steelers move to 8-2 on the season.

Final Pick

Pittsburgh Steelers ML (+128)
