Game Prediction
OKC has been one of the best teams in the NBA this season and they’ll have a chance to reclaim the top seed in the West with a victory. However, they will most likely be without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for this contest. SGA is a huge part of this Thunder offense so losing him for this game is going to hurt. He draws a ton of attention with the ball in his hands which allows him to create open shots for his teammates. The MVP candidate is also impactful on the defensive end with his quick hands so that will also be tough to replace.
Phoenix will primarily depend on their big 3 for an offensive punch. The X-factor of this game will be Jusuf Nurkic. OKC is a small team that struggles to rebound, so if Nurkic can use his size to dominate the glass while finishing at the rim that will be a huge advantage for the Suns. It would also help if they could get double-digit points from their secondary scorers, Grayson Allen or Eric Gordon.
Overall, this should be a competitive game despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander most likely sitting this one out. OKC is 2-0 in the season series against Phoenix, but Devin Booker didn’t play in either game. Tonight will be a different story with the Suns at full strength and the Thunder missing a key player. Based on these circumstances, I believe that the offensive firepower from the Suns’ big 3 will be too much for the Thunder to handle, especially without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Therefore, I am picking the Phoenix Suns to cover the spread on the road.
Final Pick
Phoenix -2 (-110)
