Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football. The Commanders are coming off a tough loss at home last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-27. On the flip side, the Eagles are flying high, no pun intended, as they demolish what’s left of the Cowboys 34-6. This game should have a massive impact on the NFC East standings.

The winner of this game takes first place in the division and will put themselves in a good spot to win the division. This NFC East showdown should be an exciting game and I can’t wait. Let’s dive straight into this game and cook up a winning slip!

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders are coming off a heartbreaking loss last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-27. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had a rookie-ish game by completing 17 of 34 passes for 202 yards and three carries for five yards. Austin Ekeler didn’t have a good yardage game with only 44 rushing yards on 13 carries but scored two touchdowns.

Terry McLaurin was excellent, catching five passes for 113 yards. For the season, their offense ranks 3rd in points per game, 11th in passing yards per game, 4th in rushing yards per game, 6th in offensive touchdowns, 4th in yards per play, and 32nd in turnovers per game.

The Commanders’ defense has been solid this season. They rank 12th in points allowed per game, 5th in passing yards allowed per game, 28th in rushing yards allowed per game, 23rd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 11th in sacks, and 18th in takeaways per game.

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore should be on pace to make his Commanders’ debut in this game after missing the Steelers game with a hamstring injury. They are facing the 2nd rushing team in the NFL in this game. If they want to put themselves in a good position to win, it starts with limiting Saquon Barkley and this Eagles rushing attack.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off steamrolling the Dallas Cowboys 34-6. Jalen Hurts didn’t need to do much. He completed 14 of 20 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. AJ Brown was spectacular with five catches for 109 yards. Runningback Saquon Barkley had 78 yards from scrimmage, 66 rushing, and 12 receiving yards.

They rested some of their starters in the fourth quarter to prevent any injuries to key players. For the season, this offense ranks 7th in points per game, 20th in passing yards per game, 2nd in rushing yards per game, 7th in offensive touchdowns, 10th in yards per play, and 15th in turnovers per game.

Philly’s defense has been great statistically. They rank 5th in points allowed per game, 3rd in passing yards allowed per game, 5th in rushing yards allowed per game, 4th in offensive touchdowns allowed per game, 10th in sacks, and 13th in takeaways per game. We are seeing their young talent shine.

Rookie and second-year players like Cooper DeJean, Nakobe Dean, and Jalen Carter are showing how talented this defense could be if they continue in their development. Going against one of the top-scoring offenses this week, if they can make Jayden Daniels look like the rookie he is, they will be in a great situation to win this game.

Prediction

The Philadelphia Eagles will beat the Washington Commanders and cover the three-point spread. Despite Jayden Daniels exploding this season, when facing teams with an above .500 record, they are 0-3. The Commanders’ rush defense is awful despite holding Najee Harris to 53 rushing yards on 21 carries.

The strength of the Eagles is their offensive line and that offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, has put the bowling bumpers up for Jalen Hurts. They have not asked him to be Superman over the past month and he has performed like one of the best QBs in the NFL. Barkley should dominate in this game and have the Eagles take first place in the NFC East.

Final Pick

Philadelphia Eagles -3.5 (-110)
