Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a big win last week against the Minnesota Vikings 27-9. Matthew Stafford was good in the win. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Kyren Williams finished the game with 92 yards from scrimmage, 76 rushing, 16 receiving, and a receiving touchdown. Tyler Higbee was featured in the first quarter before missing the rest of the game. He finished the game with 5 catches for 58 yards, all in the first quarter. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp combined for 6 catches for 73 receiving yards. This offense has an exceptional one-two punch at receiver.

LA’s defense was sensational in the win over the Vikings. They tied an NFL playoff record with 9 sacks in the win. Chris Shula, the Rams’ defensive coordinator, held a Vikings offense that was in the top ten in scoring in the regular season, with 16 points under their season average. They were the key to the Wild Card win and will be equally important for this game.

The last time these teams faced each other, Saquon Barkley had the best performance anyone had all season. He finished that game with 302 yards from scrimmage including 255 rushing yards. It starts by limiting the damage done to the ground.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a win at home last week against the Green Bay Packers, 22-10. Jalen Hurts was subpar in the win, but it was his first game played in three weeks so there was bound to be rust. He finished the game by completing 13 of 21 passes for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Saquon Barkley dominated the game with 119 rushing yards on 25 carries and could have more but he broke free in the 4th quarter and slid to end the game. DeVonta Smith let the team with 55 receiving yards on 4 catches. Behind Barkley and their top two receivers, this offense is a handful.

This Philly defense argues to be one of the best in the NFL. They held this Packer offense to just 10 points, 17 less than their season average. They forced a season-high 4 turnovers in the win and 3 interceptions, and they recovered one of the two fumbles they forced. However, it was a costly win.

Nakobe Dean was injured in the game, suffering a torn patellar tendon, and will be out for the remainder of the playoffs. That is a massive loss because he is one of the more explosive players in the NFL. Going against a Rams offense that has two number-one receivers will be a handful for the young secondary of the Eagles.

Prediction

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to defeat the Los Angeles Rams and cover the 5.5-point spread in this game. Despite how impressive the Rams looked last week, Philly is a different beast entirely. We know how dynamic Hurts can be when called upon. AJ Brown dominated last with 106 receiving yards on 6 catches and a touchdown. That is on top of what Barkley did.

The Rams’ offense hasn’t looked good in a month and I don’t expect them to pick it up in this game. Philly’s defense will dominate and hold the Rams to the high teens-low twenties. The Philadelphia Eagles fly past the Rams and punch their ticket to the NFC Championship.

Final Pick

Philadelphia Eagles -5.5 (-110)
