NHL Best Bets: Washington Capitals (+220) at Florida Panthers (-270) – 6 PM CST

Over/Under 6 Goals (-115)

The Florida Panthers broke our heart on the money line Tuesday night by stinking up the place hosting the slumping Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers shocked the Panthers by winning 2-1. The Panthers had been hot going into the All-Star break, winning 4 straight, while the Flyers were losers of 5 in a row. Florida has struggled at home of late, losing 5 of their last seven at Amerant Bank Arena.

I have to believe Florida will want to get the bad taste out of their mouths as they look to start off the second half of the season on the right track. They face a Washington Capitals team that is limping into the post-All-Star break, having lost their last 5 contests. It is shocking that Washington is 22-19-7 this year, given that star forward Alex Ovechkin is having the worst season of his Hall of Fame career. They have struggled to put up shots on goal.

Bet – Panthers on the Money Line (-270) and Matthew Tkachuk (FLA) Anytime Assist (-125).  Two-Pick Parlay (+116)

NHL Best Bets: Winnipeg Jets (-130) at Philadelphia Flyers (+110) – 6 PM CST

Over/Under 5.5 Goals (-105)

The Winnipeg Jets will try to shake off a post-All-Star slow start and right the ship against the Philadelphia Flyers, who picked up a huge 2-1 win at Florida on Tuesday night.  After winning 10 of 11 games between December 30 – January 20, the Jets found themselves losers of 4 straight.  Back-up goalie Laurent Brossoit will find the crease tonight for the Jets.  He has been fantastic backing up Conor Hellebuyck this season, showing a stat line of 7-3-2, 2.07, .926, and less than two goals in 3 straight starts.

The Jets were blanked 3-0 at Pittsburgh on Tuesday night and play a Flyers team coming off a confidence boosting win.  The Flyers will be riding goalie Samuel Ersson as Carter Hart is out indefinitely as accusations of sexual assault against the netminder loom.  Ersson has been serviceable this season. This game has the feel of one where Winnipeg will be desperate for a good showing. The Flyers will want to hold serve on home ice.  The player to watch is Joel Farabee, who has points in 8 of his last 10 games, with 5 goals and 6 assists in that span.

Bet – Alternate Under 6.5 Goals (-170) and Joel Farabee (PHI) Anytime Point (-110)

NHL Best Bets: Tampa Bay Lightning (+120) at New York Islanders (-142) – 7 PM CST

Over/Under 6.5 Goals (-110)

Tampa Bay faces off against the Islanders, having lost Wednesday night 3-1 to the cross-town Rangers.  The Bolts had won 8 of their previous 9 games. However, many of these wins were against teams the likes of New Jersey, Arizona, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Minnesota, and Anaheim.  The Isles have had their own concerns of late, losing 7 of their previous eight games before knocking off the Toronto Maple Leafs on the road Monday night.

The Islanders and Lightning both give up a ton of opponent shots. There could be one where the light bulbs need to be changed after the game. A player to watch is Mathew Barzal, who put on a great show at the All-Star game skills competition as well as the game. He scored a goal in the 3-2 victory over Toronto on Monday to stay hot.  Barzal has scored 7 points in his last 5 games.

Bet – Alternate Over 5.5 Goals (-175) and Mathew Barzal (NYI) Anytime Assist (-140)
