NHL Best Bets and Player Props | Feb. 9 2024

New York Rangers Carolina Hurricanes Metropolitan Division Odds NHL

We have a small slate tonight in the NHL with only three games. The team matchups are not great, but the betting still can be. Let’s look at what the guys from “The Stew with JT Brew” podcast, which airs its “NHL Around the Ice” segment every Wednesday night on Total Apex Sports YouTube channel, has cooked up for you. Here are the best bets and player props for February 9, 2024.

Pittsburgh Penguins (-130) at Minnesota Wild (+110) – 7:00 PM CST

Over/Under 6 Goals (-110)

The Minnesota Wild are coming off a 2-1 victory at Chicago on Wednesday night while the Pens have lost three straight games and should be desperate for a good showing on the road.  The Pens have dominated the Wild in recent memory, winning nine out of last 10 head-to-head. When these clubs face off against one another, it usually goes to the over total goals.

Alex Nedeljkovic will man the crease for Pittsburgh tonight and while he has been good overall this season (8-3-2, 2.60 GAA, .918 SV%), he has been shaky on the road of late, giving up 1-5-5-3 goals in his last four road starts. Since January 15th, the Wild have scored an average of just under four goals/game. Marc-Andre Fleury has been shaky at best this season in goal for the Wild. A player to watch is the Wild’s young star defenseman Brock Faber. He has scored a point in seven of his last eight games (2G, 8A, 10P).

Single Bets – Alternate Over 5.5 Total Goals (-150). Brock Faber (MIN) Anytime Assist (+130) on Draft Kings.

Parlay – Two-Pick Parlay Over 6 Total Goals (-110) and Faber (MIN) Anytime Assist (+130) is +234 on DraftKings.

New York Rangers (-390) at Chicago Blackhawks (+270) – 7:30 PM CST

Over/Under Goals 5.5 Goals (-105)

This game reeks of the under total goals scored. The Blackhawks are interested in developing their culture by playing a tough, hard-nosed, close game to ensure that they have a chance to win every single night. However, they rarely win because they simply have no offense without star rookie Connor Bedard in the lineup. He continues to rehab after suffering a fractured jaw on January 5th.

The Hawks have scored 1-0-0-2-0-4-0-2-1-1-1 goals in their past 11 games. Though they have not struggled as mightily as the Hawks, the Rangers have struggled to score consistently since January 18th, where they have averaged just under three goals per contest. Igor Shesterkin finds his way back into net for the first time since January 26th. He may want to splash the water bottle on his face more than usual to stay awake tonight, as this game could likely be more of the same for Hawks opponents – boring!

Single Bet – Alternate Under 6 Total Goals (-145) on DraftKings. Chicago Blackhawks Alternate Puck Line +2.5 (-200).

Parlay – Two-Pick Parlay of Alternate Under 6.5 Total Goals (-186) and the Chicago Blackhawks Alternate Puck Line +2.5 (-194) for +119 on FanDuel

Edmonton Oilers (-278) at Anaheim Ducks (+225) – 9:00 PM CST

Over/Under 6.5 Goals (-110)

One would think that Edmonton should win this game easily after coming up one win short of tying the NHL’s consecutive win streak record of 17 games. They bowed to the Vegas Golden Knights Tuesday by the score of 3-1. If you were lucky enough to watch that game, it had the “feels” of playoff hockey and could’ve gone either way. Do the Oilers come out flat after the disappointment of coming so close to a record that has stood for more than 30 years? Do they dish out their frustration on this Anaheim team that is playing for a lottery pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft?

Anaheim hosted the Oilers back on New Year’s Eve and were drubbed 7-2. The Ducks gave up nearly 40 shots on goal, and McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Evan Bouchard didn’t have to provide much help in the lopsided Oilers win.  McDavid has feasted on Duck during his spectacular career.

Bet – Edmonton Oilers Puck Line -1.5 (-115) on DraftKings. Connor McDavid (EDM) Over 1.5 Points (-125) on DraftKings.
