Key Stats

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been one of the MLB’s best teams all season. They are sending out Gerrit Cole as the starting pitcher in tonight’s matchup. Cole has had success in the past against the Phillies batters. Holding them to a batting average of .245 (45-of-184) with 53 strikeouts. He is looking to bounce back after his last performance, not even going six full innings while giving up six runs in their loss to the New York Mets. Cole is primed to show why he is still one of the best pitchers in the league, even at 33 years of age.

To turn to the offensive side of the dish, the Yankees are led by reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge who has been on a tear this season, batting .315 (third in the MLB), 99 RBIs, 39 Home Runs, 1.142 OPS and 263 total bases which leads the league in those categories. Coming off a two-home run game last night, he is looking to stay hot. Judge’s running mate, Juan Soto, is coming off a fantastic game last night as well, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and scoring two runs in the New York Yankees 14-4 win yesterday.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies need to get back in the win column in a hurry. They stand at the top of the National League, however, they only have a two-game lead over the Dodgers and are on a two-game losing streak. Philly will turn to their ace, Aaron Nola, who has been sensational all season long. With a record of 11-4, he has the fifth most wins by any pitcher in the MLB and is sixth in innings pitched. He has a great track record against the Yankees’ batters, holding them to a .217 batting average, 20/92 overall with 31 Ks. The Phillies will need him to stay sharp to pull out a win.

They are led by Bryce Harper, who has been in a bit of a slump as of late. With only six hits in his last 42 at-bats, he needs to break out of this slump to keep the lead in the NL. His co-star, Alec Bohm, leads the MLB in doubles with 36 and leads the Phillies in batting average (.295), RBIs (71), and hits (117). This should be an exciting game between two of the best offenses in the entire league.

Prediction

I am predicting that the Philadelphia Phillies will defeat the New York Yankees in today’s matchup. The Phillies are due to stretch together good baseball again. Over their last ten games, Philly has a record of 3-7, however. they have been dominant at home. With a record of 38-19 at home, they have the most wins at home in the MLB and continue to be this after their loss yesterday.

Final Pick

Philadelphia Phillies ML (-112)
