The New York Yankees head south to meet the scuffling Philadelphia Phillies, with the Yanks riding back-to-back wins in which they scored a total of 19 runs against Boston. Philadelphia, meanwhile, just dropped two of three to the Guardians over the weekend, and they’ll be counting on ace Zack Wheeler to right the ship.
The Yankees will send Luis Gill to the mound and hope he can go toe to toe with Wheeler and keep the Philadelphia lineup in a state of relative slumber. For the Bronx Bombers, it’s their second series in a six-game trip and yet another intense matchup with a playoff contender.
It’s an offense vs. offense matchup with a marquee pitching matchup, so let’s dive into some of the stats and trends to see where the betting value lies. On paper it looks like plenty of runs will be scored today, but Wheeler and Gil will obviously have plenty to say about that.

Key Stats
New York Yankees
The Yankee offense shredded Boston’s pitching staff over the weekend, knocking out the Red Sox starters and preying on the exhausted Sox bullpen. The Yanks definitely had their hitting shoes on, with over half their lineup homering at one point or another during the series.
Want details? Cue up the latest edition of the Aaron Judge/Juan Soto highlight clips. Judge hit a monster 470-ft shot in the first game against Boston that nearly dinged the centerfield scoreboard, and Soto responded with a towering drive of his own in game two. The key to the offensive barrage, however, was the long ball contributions of secondary guys like Gleyber Torres and Anthony Volpe, whose homers kept the Yankee lineup from turning back into a two-man show.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phils were out-pitched twice by the Guardians this weekend, first in the opener by Ben Lively, then by most of the Cleveland bullpen as they were shut down for the final 5-2/3 innings after taking a 3-0 lead. In between they hammered the Guardians 8-0, with Tyler Phillips going the distance for the shutout.
Offensively, Kyle Schwarber is seriously hot, with five hits and three home runs in his last nine at-bats. Bryce Harper, however, will definitely need to pick things up against New York, as he was just 1 for 13 against Cleveland, although his lone hit was a home run. Don’t discount the impact of “Dealer Dave” Dombrowski on this series, and Brian Cashman has been active in the trade market as well.
Prediction
Could this actually be a pitcher’s duel? Both Wheeler and Gil have been incredibly strong lately, with Gil giving up just one run in each of his last three starts, while Wheeler has coughed up just six runs over his last five starts. We’ll ride the hot hand, though, and take the Yankees on the money line of +130. That offense is just scary good when everyone’s hitting, and it’s an especially attractive pick in the Citizens Bank band box.
Final Pick
New York Yankees – Money Line +130
