Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets Preview, Prediction, & Odds | NFL Week 6, 2024

Buffalo Bills

The New York Jets are hosting the Buffalo Bills in this AFC East showdown. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are coming off a loss in London last week against the Minnesota Vikings 23-17. Meanwhile, Josh Allen and the Bills are also coming off a loss. They lost to the Houston Texans 23-20 off a 59-yard game-winning field goal as time expired. The winner of this game takes the lead in the AFC East division. Both teams are looking to take one step closer to making the postseason. This game should be electric, so let’s dive straight into it!

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are coming off a performance Josh Allen would like to forget against the Houston Texans. Allen was 9 for 30 passing for only 131 passing yards and one touchdown, while also adding four carries for 54 yards. Runningback James Cook is coming off a solid performance, tallying 99 yards from scrimmage, including 20 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. It will be vital for the Bills to get him going if they are going to beat the New York Jets. For the season, the Bills offense ranks 3rd in points per game, 24th in passing yards per game, 14th in rushing yards per game, 2nd in offensive touchdowns, and 32nd in turnovers per game.

The Bills’ defense has been good this season, outside of their loss to the Ravens. For the season, they rank 12th in points allowed per game, 13th in passing yards allowed per game, 25th in rushing yards allowed per game, 15th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 16th in sacks, and 5th in takeaways per game. For this game against the Jets, Buffalo will be without Von Miller who was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and Ed Oliver who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Those are two huge losses for a Bills’ defense that might be the key to their victory this week.

New York Jets

The New York Jets are headed home from last week’s loss against the Minnesota Vikings in London. Aaron Rodgers would like to put his performance behind him. Completing 29 of 54 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns, and three picks, including one on the final drive, is not the Jets’ game plan for success. After the loss, they fired their head coach, Robert Salah, and demoted OC Nathaniel Hackett. Despite the loss, Garrett Wilson had an excellent game, catching 13 passes on 22 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown.  As a team, New York rushed for 36 yards which will not be enough to defeat the Bills this week.

The Jets’ defense has been the main reason New York has been in every game. For the season, they rank 5th in points allowed per game, 2nd in passing yards allowed per game, 14th in rushing yards allowed per game, 2nd in offensive touchdowns allowed, 4th in sacks, and 14th in takeaways per game. Linebacker CJ Mosley is questionable to play in this game due to a toe injury that limited him this week in practice. Their corners are good with Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed. If they can limit the damage James Cook and Josh Allen can do on the ground, it should give their defensive backs chances to stall out the Bills offense.

Prediction

The Buffalo Bills are going to defeat the New York Jets and cover the spread in this matchup. The Bills have the better quarterback in this matchup who has cleaned up his turnover tendencies from past years. The Jets have a hard time stopping the run and Buffalo has turned into a solid running team, not just with James Cook but with Josh Allen as well. Last week Josh Allen was terrible and I expect him to bounce back in a big way against their division rival. Lastly, the New York Jets are in disarray after firing their head coach and changing playcalling.

Final Pick

Buffalo Bills -2.5 (-112)
