New York Jets

The Denver Broncos are taking on the New York Jets in this week’s matchup. The Denver Broncos are coming off defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home on Sunday 26-7. On the other side, the New York Jets are coming off defeating their AFC East rival New England Patriots at home last Thursday 24-3. We’ve got a battle of two of the best pass defenses in the NFL so it should be a defensive game. You guys know the teams and we know the odds. Let’s jump ten toes deep into this game and cook up a winning slip!

The Denver Broncos are coming off an excellent win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that game, we saw Bo Nix continue to make strides in his rookie campaign. He was solid in completing 25 of his 36 passes for 216 yards, he also added nine rushes for 47 yards and a rushing touchdown. They led the entire game, with the largest lead being 19 points in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton had a good bounce-back game as he was targeted 11 times with seven catches for 68 yards. If Nix continues to improve every week, Denver could find themselves in position for one of the AFC Wild Card spots.

Their defense has been extremely impressive through the first three games. Denver is allowing 15.3 points per game, which is sixth in the NFL. Denver’s specialty on defense is against the pass, as they are ranked third in opponent passing yards per game with 133.3. If they can limit the Jets’ rushing attack, which is 21st in the NFL, it can give their pass rushers more chances to get home. The Broncos are fifth in the NFL in terms of total sacks. In my opinion, the biggest key in this game is to limit the turnovers and keep the New York Jets offense off the field.

The New York Jets are coming off a dominating win against the New England Patriots. Aaron Rodgers had his best game in a few years, completing 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. They dominated the time of possession battle 40:04 to 19:56. New York was 10/15 on third down and 3/4 in the red zone. These key situations are key to success in every game. Tight end Tyler Conklin had a career day, catching five passes for 93 yards in the win. Running back Breece Hall added 83 yards from scrimmage and scored a rushing touchdown. This will be a test to see if the Jets can stay hot against a ferocious pass defense.

The Jets’ defense is coming off a great game. Holding the Patriots to three points, 139 total yards, and 2/11 on third down, was the key to their success last Thursday. Sacking Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye seven times and 15 QB hits for the game, few things will determine the outcome of games early and the biggest one, in my opinion, is controlling the line of scrimmage. If you can control the line of scrimmage, you will put yourself in a great position to win, and if the Jets can force the Broncos behind the sticks, they put themselves in a great position to win their second straight game.

Prediction

The Denver Broncos will cover the 7.5-point spread in this game. Did the New York Jets look impressive last game? Yes. However, they are going against one of the best secondaries in the NFL in this game. The Broncos shut down one of the best offenses through the first two games in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Holding them to seven points and just 163 passing yards. I think that head coach Sean Payton has put Bo Nix in great positions to succeed throughout the season with short and intermediate passes. The Jets may still win, however, I think this will be a lower-scoring game between these two incredible secondaries.

Final Pick

Dever Broncos +7.5 (-110)
