New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders Preview, Predictions & Odds | NFL Week 2 2024

New York Giants

The New York Giants travel to Washington for a Week 2 NFC East matchup, with both teams looking to avoid a 0-2 start. Washington comes in with optimism off a fairly successful offensive output by rookie Jayden Daniels in his Week 1 debut. Daniels was 17-24 for 184 yards and rushed for another 88 yards and two touchdowns. His quarterback rating was 93.1.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones may be playing for his starting job coming off last week’s dismal performance against the Minnesota Vikings. Jones was 22-42 for 186 yards and a pair of interceptions while also being sacked five times.

The Giants come in off the disappointing 28-6 home loss to the Vikings. They were outgained 312-240, averaged a mere 3.5 yards per play and Jones was sacked five times. Jones averaged a paltry 4.4 YPA and was intercepted twice. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, their top draft pick, did flash with a 5-66 line and 13.2 YPC. The Giants enter 6-4 ATS in their last ten games as well as 6-4 ATS during their last ten games as an underdog. Against the Commanders, the Giants are 8-2 ATS in their previous ten games, including a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five in Washington.

The Commanders come into their home opener fresh off a 37-20 road loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, which saw Baker Mayfield torch their secondary for 289 yards and a lofty 9.6 YPA. Jayden Daniels brings another strong test for the Giant secondary that struggled against Sam Darnold. The Commandeers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games and 3-7 ATS in their previous ten games as a favorite. In addition, Washington is 0-5 ATS last five as a chalk and eye-opening 2-8 ATS last 10 against the Giants.

Prediction

This NFC East division battle should be closely contested throughout. The public will be all over the Commanders but I expect a motivated Daniel Jones and the Giants to play better in week two. As of this writing, there is sharp money on the Giants. Vegas’ opening line had Washington at -3 and getting 75%  of spread bets and yet the line dropped to -1.5. This is the betting edge reverse line movement we speak of.

Final Pick

New York Giants +3 (-148) Alternate spread bet/ Giants ML +105
