New Orleans Saints @ Los Angeles Chargers Preview, Predictions and Odds| NFL Week 8

The New Orleans Saints (2-5) will travel to Los Angeles to face the LA Chargers(3-3) after losing to the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. The Saints will be without their starting QB Derek Carr who just returned to throwing and is unlikely to play against the Chargers. Spencer Rattler will make his third start in the NFL against a difficult team looking for the fourth win of the season.

The Chargers have lost three of their last four NFL games, including a narrow loss to the Cardinals on MNF. Meanwhile, the Saints will be hoping to avoid 6 games loss streak.

Key Stats

Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins catches a pass against the Arizona Cardinals.

New Orleans Saints

If Rookie Spencer Rattler starts, the Saints will struggle to beat the Chargers. The Rookie QB struggled to pass the ball well, signaling that the visiting team will need to rely on Alvin Kamara to run the ball. In his first two NFL games, Rattler only completed 62.7% of his passes and scored only one touchdown.

The Saints’ defense has not been good, allowing opponents to score an average of 34 points per game in the last four games. So far, Kamara has six rushing TDs and will need to rush the ball more than 20 times for the Saints to have any sort of success.

Los Angeles Chargers

QB Justin Herbert will need to replicate his game against the Arizona Cardinals whereby he recorded 349 passing yards. However, the yards did not translate into touchdowns because the team only scored 15 points. The receivers for the host team will need to up their game because they have been dropping passes despite their QB doing his best to throw the ball to them.

Recently, the Chargers’ defense has been improving, but their offense is yet to score adequate touchdowns to get wins consistently. Coach Harbaugh has urged his offensive unit to protect the ball more as they take on the Saints on Sunday. The hosts controlled their last game against the Cardinals for 34 minutes against 26 minutes, but they will need to convert their yards into touchdowns.

Prediction

The Saints started the season with two straight wins, but they have struggled to impose their will on games, losing five straight games now. The visitors have extra rest days than the hosts and will look to battle against a team that failed to reach the end zone in their recent loss against the Cardinals. Both teams have some injuries affecting their offensive units and they will be hoping to get a win to turn around their season. The Chargers will probably score a TD as Justin Herbert’s passing yards continue rolling.

Final Pick

Chargers(ML), -340
