A new college basketball season is on the horizon and with that, teams will be vying for their chance to compete for a National Championship come March/April of next year. There are plenty of teams that look to be contenders for a National Championship run, but realistically, it is likely that only a few teams have an actual chance of winning the Big Dance.
Because the new season has yet to get underway, now is a great time to analyze the current National Championship betting odds and determine who are the top contenders, while also predicting who we think will win it all early next year.
Top 2024-2025 National Championship Odds
- UConn Huskies +900
- Kansas Jayhawks +1000
- Duke Blue Devils +1000
- Alabama Crimson Tide +1000
- Houston Cougars +1500
- North Carolina Tar Heels +1800

UConn Huskies (+900)
Odds per DraftKings Sportsbook
The UConn Huskies have won the National Championship in back-to-back seasons so it is no surprise to see that they are favorites this season as well. That said, the Huskies lost four of their top players from last year’s Championship team to the 2024 NBA Draft. UConn also looks to be much younger this season, having just one Senior on their roster and one Graduate player. The rest of their roster is made up mostly of Sophomores and Juniors with a few Freshman as well.
While the Huskies should challenge for a third straight title, their roster turnaround gives me hesitation to bet on them. The silver lining is that they still have head coach, Dan Hurley, however, given the fact that their odds are not favorable, backing the Huskies in terms of the futures market looks to be a bet to stay away from.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+1000)
Odds per DraftKings Sportsbook
Not far behind UConn are the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide are third on the odds board and have National Championship odds of +1000. Most notably, Alabama is returning guard, Mark Sears. Sears was by far Alabama’s best player last season, averaging 21.5 points per game. Other notable players returning are Grant Nelson, who averaged 11.9 points per game last season.
The Tide also brought in Chris Youngblood from the transfer portal. Last season with the South Florida Bulls, Youngblood averaged 15.3 points per game and should make an immediate impact at Alabama. All in all, Alabama has seven Seniors or Graduate players, so they are experienced and therefore could use that experience to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
North Carolina Tar Heels (+1800)
Odds per DraftKings Sportsbook
A little further down on the odds board are the North Carolina Tar Heels, who have National Championship odds of +1800. The Tar Heels are returning RJ Davis, who averaged 21.2 points per game. His presence along with the wealth of talented North Carolina has recruited, automatically makes them a contender. They will of course miss Armando Bacott, but regardless, should still challenge for a title as they seem to do every season.
Prediction
This should be another interesting season for college basketball as a ton of new and old faces will be relevant. That said, Alabama looks to be one of the best betting options to win the National Championship. As mentioned, the Crimson Tide have a wealth of experience and with Mark Sears back to lead the charge, Alabama is dangerous in every area of the game. Adding Chris Youngblood brings even more depth to their team, therefore backing Alabama to win the National Championship will be our best bet.
