NC State Wolfpack vs. #21 Clemson Tigers Prediction and Odds | College Football Week 4

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: AUG 31 AFLAC Kickoff Game - Clemson Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs

The 21st-ranked Clemson Tigers (1-1, 0-0 ACC) host the NC State Wolfpack (2-1, 0-0) this Saturday afternoon in an ACC game. Clemson was off for Week 3 and is coming off a 66-20 blowout home win against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in Week 2. Quarterback Cade Klubnik completed 24-of-36 passes for 378 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in the game. Running back Phil Mafah carried the ball 10 times for 118 yards and one touchdown.

The Wolfpack are coming off a 30-20 home win against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Running back Kendrick Raphael carried the ball nine times for 63 yards and one touchdown. Backup Quarterback CJ Bailey completed 13 of 20 passes for 156 yards and one interception.

Can the Wolfpack win in ‘Death Valley’ with a Freshman quarterback, or will the Tigers continue to pick up the pieces of an opening-week loss?

NC State Wolfpack

The Wolfpack enter 2-1, averaging 26.0 points per game this season. Running Back Jordan Waters leads the team in rushing, averaging 52.0 yards per game. Starting quarterback Grayson McCall has been ruled out for this game and will be replaced by freshman CJ Bailey. In his only real appearance this season, he threw for 156 yards, one interception, and completed 65.0% of his passes.

Wide receiver Kevin Concepcion is averaging 66.3 receiving yards per game and has scored three touchdowns. Justin Joly is averaging 51 receiving yards per game. Defensively, NC State has three interceptions and three sacks. They are allowing 30.7 points per game.

Clemson Tigers

The Clemson Tigers enter the game 1-1, averaging 34.5 points per game this season. Phil Mafah leads the team in rushing, averaging 88.5 yards per game with one touchdown. Quarterback Cade Klubnik is averaging 260.0 passing yards per game and is completing 76.4% of his passes. To start the year, he has thrown five touchdowns and one interception.

Wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. averages 67.5 receiving yards per game, while Jake Briningstool is averaging 63.0 receiving yards per game. From a defensive standpoint, Clemson has two interceptions and two sacks. They are allowing 27.0 points per game.

Prediction

Losing starting quarterback Grayson McCall hurts NC State as their backup quarterback CJ Bailey will be making his first start in the hostile environment of ‘Death Valley’. As for Clemson, after their debacle against Georgia in Week 1, they blew out App State by 46 in their second game. This and the fact that the Tigers are on extra rest coming off a bye week makes me believe they will be up to the task of silencing the upset-minded Wolfpack.

That said, the pressure on the shoulders of NC State’s CJ Bailey will likely be too much, at least at the start of the game. For that reason, backing Clemson to start the game strongly and cover the first-quarter spread of -6.5 will be our best bet.

Final Pick

Clemson Tigers 1st Quarter -6.5 (-125)
