Memphis Grizzlies vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview, Prediction & Odds | April 8, 2025

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis appears to have stabilized amid the chaos leading up to and following the firing of their head coach. Five teams are tied for the 5th and 6th seeds in the Western Conference. Three of the five teams will have to fight for their playoff lives in the play-in tournament. Will the Grizzlies commit another self-inflicted injury, or can they get out of Charlotte with a win? The Memphis Grizzlies will need to be mentally tough in the last four games to finish their season in a good way.

Will The Grizzlies Control Their Own Playoff Destiny?

By all means, this should be a game made for the Memphis Grizzlies to get some rhythm going into the postseason. However, in the midst of recent controversy, it is hard to let the highlights be the focus of the headlines. In the Grizzlies’ last contest, Desmond Bane scored 38 points, Zach Edey had a career-high 21 rebounds, and Memphis won their second straight game in Detroit 109-103.

It’s been Ja Morant who has been dominating headlines for his recent $75,000 display. He made a gun gesture towards the Warriors’ bench, which the league later fined him for. Morant was a late scratch to play in Detroit due to a reported illness. Morant’s role has been much diminished this season. I think if Memphis plays at full strength, they should easily cover the spread at -13.5 (-110).

Charlotte Continues to Struggle Through Losing Season

The Grizzlies have been unpredictable all season. The Hornets, on the other hand, have been predictably bad. For a season average, the Grizzlies average nearly 20 points more than the Hornets. Despite Coby White‘s 37 points, Charlotte still fell to the Chicago Bulls 131-117 in their last game. The Hornets have looked defeated from the tip-off of late.

They have lost eight of their last 10, and with LaMelo Ball out for the season, it looks as though the Hornets may be as well. With only four games left, they have nothing real to play for, whereas the Grizzlies have everything on the line. I expect Memphis to roll over Charlotte and begin their postseason when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.

Final Pick

Memphis to cover spread -13.5 and point total to go over 230. (+250)
