The Miami Marlins are entering the 2025 season looking to improve their young talent. Not many are giving them a chance at really anything this season. Their ultimate goal for this season might be to get out of the basement of the National League East division. No one expects them to be able to compete with the three beasts of the East- the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Mets. If you are a fan of the Marlins or a degenerate gambler what would be the outlook of Miami’s season to keep things interesting?
Miami Marlins Win Total UNDER 63.5 (-120)
Outlook Based Off Last Season
2023 seems like a distant memory for the Miami Marlins and their fans. Last season the team from South Beach, had 22 fewer wins than the prior year. The team ended with a 62-100 record which was second worst in the National League. The Colorado Rockies would be the only team worse than the Marlins. Even with being in the top half of Major League Baseball on Average, the team ranked bottom five in not only Home Runs but in Runs Batted In as well. To put more salt in the wound they finished dead last in fielding percentage and second worst in team ERA.
This was a season most Marlins fans would like to forget. They moved on from superstar Jazz Chisholm at the trade deadline when they were far from contention. I will say it again you can’t win the World Series in April but you can definitely lose it by then. Miami was proof of this in 2024. By May 1st, the Marlins couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole they created with a 7-24 record. May would be the only month of last year’s season that they had a winning record of 14-13. The losing ways would continue in the following months.
Offseason Moves
The most surprising move in the offseason for the Miami Marlins was the departing ways with slugger Jake Burger. Burger was the only player on the roster to hit over 20 Home Runs last season ending with 29. He also led the team with 76 RBI. So what happens when you lose your best-run producer and don’t replace him? You hear crickets! The Marlins were pretty quiet in the offseason.
They signed veteran pitcher Cal Quantrill to a one-year deal. Quantrill has seen his ERA elevate the past two seasons and is looking to get back on track. A good first half of the season may see him on the move to a contender come trade deadline time.
These were the main two moves Miami made in the offseason. Other than that they have signed a bunch of young talent looking to build for the future. They currently sit with the youngest MLB roster in the league with players averaging 26 years old.
Final Thoughts
Other than ace Sandy Alcantara, can you name a player on the Miami Marlins? I will give you time, please no cheating! This team is relying on their young talent to possibly take the next step. In one of the most top-heavy divisions in baseball, wins may be far and few between for this team. I would expect some of their young players to possibly step up, but to think that they all will and for them to do it together is foolish!
That’s why I am leaning on the under for this team. It is more difficult to lose 100 games than you may think. When the casual fan can only name one player on your squad, you may have a winning problem. I fully expect the Marlins to have the worst record in baseball this season.
