Seattle Mariners vs Chicago White Sox Preview, Prediction, and Odds | July 27th, 2024 | MLB Regular Season

Seattle Mariners

The Chicago White Sox will host the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game set that will conclude tomorrow. Chicago sports a league-worst 27-79 record, and even at home, they’ve been abysmal, where they’ve gone 17-35. Seattle comes in at 54-51, and they’re just one game back of the AL West-leading Astros, despite the Mariners’ recent cold stretch. Seattle has been active in the trade market, acquiring Randy Arozarena from the Rays on Thursday, as well as several key relievers over the last couple of days. The preview for this AL showdown is provided below.

Key Stats

Seattle Mariners

The Mariners’ offense came alive last night, exploding for eight runs in the first inning en route to their 10-0 win. Right-hander Bryan Woo is on the mound for the visitors, coming in with a 4-1 record, 2.54 ERA, and a 0.87 WHIP. He’s made just ten starts this season, but he’s been excellent pretty much every time he’s taken the hill. Offensively, Seattle has struggled overall, especially lately outside of last night, but they’re hoping that the addition of Arozarena can spark an underperforming lineup.

The White Sox have been awful all around, and they’ve dropped 12 straight after last night’s embarrassing defeat. Righty Erick Fedde gets the ball tonight, and he’s gone 7-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the year. He’s been a bright spot for the hosts, and he’s been lights out at Guaranteed Rate field this year. At home, he’s 5-1 with a 1.47 ERA, and he pitched great against Seattle earlier this season. While the White Sox’s lineup is terrible, Fedde can keep them in the ballgame versus a subpar Seattle offense.

Prediction

This is a prime spot for the White Sox to snap their losing streak with their ace on the mound, but it’s really tough to rely on the White Sox’s bats, as they’re hitting just .187 over their last ten. Both starters have been great this season, with Fedde holding a 1.47 ERA at home, and Woo holding a 2.54 mark, expect few runs to come across in this one. I’m going with the alternate total of 6.5 to go under here after both teams combined for just two runs over the final eight innings last night.

Final Pick

Under 6.5 (+146 on Fanduel)
