Key Stats
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a loss against the Lions last week. Not only did they lose, the loss was costly to their team. Star receiver Puka Nacua and offensive linemen Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom got injured in this game and have been placed on Injury Reserve. Those are massive losses for a Rams team that is thin at the receiver position as well as offensive line. On the bright side, Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp looked like the deadly connection they were when Kupp won the Triple Crown in 2021. Kupp had 21 targets out of Stafford’s 49 passes for 14 catches, 110 yards, and one touchdown.
There were some positives to take away from their loss last week. LA had more yards, time of possession, and first downs. Last season, the Rams swept the season series against the Cardinals in those two games, they outscored them 63-23 in those two games. The second game was Kyler Murray’s third game of the season in which LA won 37-14. Since 2017, head coach Sean McVay has a record of 13-2 against the Cardinals, including 8-0 on the road. This is a classic bounce-back spot for the Rams and Sean McVay.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are looking to bounce back after blowing a 14-point lead in last week’s game against the Bills. Kyler Murray was solid, going 21-of-31 through the air for 162 passing yards and a touchdown, he also added five carries for 57 yards. This was the first game for first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. Harrison’s debut was a disaster, only catching one pass for four yards. As for the defense of Arizona, they were solid in the first half holding the Buffalo Bills to just 1o points. They sacked Josh Allen twice and forced one turnover.
For the positives, James Conner is going to be heavily involved in the Cardinals’ game plan, just like he was last season. He has 19 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage. Arizona is going to need to have more big plays if they want to contend in this game. Last week they only had four plays of 20+ yards.
Prediction
I am picking the Los Angeles Rams on an alternate spread, -2.5 at +120. I love the Rams in this spot. Although they are injury-riddled on offense, I don’t see it being that much of a factor when you consider the matchup this week. They are playing a Cardinals team that had two sacks last week and only 33 last season. This team does not get to the quarterback. I expect Matthew Stafford to have another big day and he, Cooper Kupp, and Kyren Williams will have big days and bounce back from last week’s loss.
Final Pick
Los Angeles Rams -2.5 (+120)
