Key Stats
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are coming off an overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers last week 36-30. Kyler Murray was subpar in the loss. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 202 yards, 1 touchdown, and an interception. James Conner dominated this game until he got hurt in the 3rd quarter. Conner finished the game with 166 yards from scrimmage, 117 rushing on 15 carries, and 49 receiving yards on 4 catches. Trey McBride had his worst game of the season with only three catches for 20 yards. This is a team with nothing to play for at this point in the season. They are ready for next season.
The Cardinals’ defense this season has been slightly above average. For the season, they are ranked 14th in points allowed per game, 14th in passing yards allowed per game, 22nd in rushing yards allowed per game, 11th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 10th in sacks, and 25th in takeaways per game. In terms of injuries, James Conner is questionable with the knee injury that knocked him out of the game last week. Both their starting tackles have been ruled out in their last two games of the season. As I mentioned, this is a young team that is ready for next season.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a big-time win on the road last week against the New York Jets, 19-9. Matthew Stafford was efficient in the win. He completed 14 of 19 passes for 110 yards, 1 touchdown, and an interception.
Kyren Williams was the star of the game with 122 rushing yards on 23 carries and a rushing touchdown. He is having an exceptional season. Puka Nacua was solid with 8 catches for 56 yards. If this offense can continue to be efficient and take advantage of big plays, they will be a dangerous team if they can win the division.
This Rams’ defense has been average to slightly below average all season long. They are ranked 18th in points allowed per game, 18th in passing yards allowed per game, 25th in rushing yards allowed per game, 13th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 25th in sacks, and 15th in takeaways per game. In general, this is one of the more healthier teams in the NFL.
Health was a big concern at the start of the season, but this team is getting healthy at the right time. We talk about teams peaking too early, this team is peaking at the right time and they need this win to stay ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in the division.
Prediction
The Los Angeles Rams are going to cruise to a win in this game against the Arizona Cardinals in this game. I know that 6.5 is a big spread in a divisional game, but with the Cardinals having key injuries on the offensive line and to their starting running back, it is a big problem. The Rams are essentially in a win-and-get-in-game, I expect Sean McVay to coach a masterclass game.
Matthew Stafford will connect with his two receivers Puka and Kupp whenever they need a big play. Lastly, Kyren Williams will dominate the ground and the clock which will be the story. Rams win and move one step closer to another NFC West division title.
