Key Stats
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers were defeated by the Los Angeles Chargers last week. After their 0-2 start, they benched former number one overall pick, Bryce Young for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. The Panthers are looking to do anything to try and get this team in the right direction. Maybe Young can learn from watching Dalton for a few weeks and come back then show some improvement. Carolina only had 159 yards of total offense against the Chargers. Young had 84 passing yards on 26 attempts. That is lower than 3.5 yards per attempt.
The Panthers’ defense is just as bad as their offense. They rank 32nd in points allowed per game, 31st in rushing yards allowed per game, 30th in offensive touchdowns allowed, and 30th in sacks. Carolina allowed the Saints in week one to score 47 points. Then in week two, they allowed only 26 points, but they allowed 219 rushing yards and lost the time of possession battle 36:18 to 23:42. This is arguably the worst team in the NFL.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off an improbable comeback against the Baltimore Ravens last week. Quarterback Gardner Minshew II was almost perfect in the fourth quarter. He threw for 126 on 9/13 passing with the game-tying touchdown with 3:57 left in the game. Davante Adams was unguardable, catching nine passes for 110 yards and the game-tying touchdown, and four catches for 86 yards in the fourth. Rookie tight end Brock Bowers was awesome as well, catching nine passes for 98 yards.
Defensively, they have been middle of the pack. Besides rushing yards allowed, they rank 29th, they are around middle to below average statistically. Their star edge rusher Maxx Crosby leads the NFL in tackles for losses with 2.5 in the first two weeks, he also has tallied three sacks so far. The Las Vegas Raiders don’t know what to expect against Andy Dalton this week, however, it should not be the biggest challenge. If they can limit the running game, they will put themselves in a great situation to win the game and start 2-1 through the first three games.
Prediction
The Carolina Panthers are going to cover the 5.5-point spread against the Las Vegas Raiders in this game. The number is too high in my opinion. The natural positive bump with the benching of Bryce Young and the promotion of Andy Dalton. I don’t believe that the Raiders are the type of team to shut down the talent that the Panthers have on offense. Good receivers such as Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen will get better passes coming their way. This is a great buy-low spot for a team getting too many points.
Final Pick
Carolina Panthers +5.5 (-110)
