The 2024 World Series Champion LA Dodgers are looking to repeat at the top of the MLB mountain. They could be the first team since the late 90s New York Yankees to win back-to-back Championships. According to Vegas betting odds, the Dodgers are set at the largest over/under win total at 104.5. They are the only team with a total over the century mark. Will they be able to improve from 98 wins a year ago? Should they be the favorite not only in the NL but to repeat as champions?
LA Dodgers Win Total OVER 104.5 Wins (-115)
Outlook Based Off Last Season
The Los Angeles Dodgers had an amazing season in 2024 resulting in the team’s 8th World Series in franchise history. Even with superstar Shohei Ohtani limited to only hitting which seems like a ridiculous statement. Ohtani hit a career-high 54 home runs and 130 RBI. Then when you add All-Star caliber players like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernandez, and Will Smith there aren’t many teams that can compete with that lineup.
The Dodgers ended the regular season with a 98-64 record. This was the best record in all of Major League Baseball, so it is fitting that their mark for the 2025 season is at 104.5. The Yankees seemed like a formidable opponent but the Dodgers handled the challenge easily winning in 5 games.
Offseason Moves
The rich got richer when it came to the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason. They may have lost Jack Flaherty, Walker Buehler, and some aging arms in free agency but the additions outweigh the losses. The signings of All-Star Blake Snell and Japanese superstar sensation Roki Sasaki should solidify the team as having one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball. Resigning Teoscar Hernandez was key to keeping one of the most dangerous lineups intact.
The Dodgers also went out and signed veteran outfielder Michael Conforto to a low-risk but high-reward one-year deal. Hyeseong Kim signed with LA from the KBO league. He is a 4-time Gold Glove Award Winner and has hit over .300 the past 4 seasons. Clayton Kershaw returns to the team and could possibly be a long reliever with a spot start here and there. Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates will provide the back-of-the-bullpen help.
Final Thoughts
It is very difficult to win over 100 games in the Major Baseball League but this Dodgers team is built different. This team is stacked from top to bottom and should be the best team in baseball when it is all said and done. The starting rotation including Team Japan’s sensational pitchers could be the most dominating staff in recent baseball history.
LA won 98 games last season with only having Flaherty for half the year and adding some additional pieces that I believe will elevate them even further. The Japanese influence and the lineup the Dodgers will provide on a day-to-day basis could have them in the history books. My only concern with this team is that they get such a lead in the NL that they aren’t playing meaningful games in September. Luckily, the NL West in particular should be somewhat competitive with the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks continuing to improve.
