The Kansas City Royals have a solid record over their last ten games, 6-4. They have won their last three games with a run differential of 22-11, including a 10-3 win during yesterday’s game over the Chicago White Sox. The Royals are sending Seth Lugo on the mound in this game. Over his career, Lugo has a great track record against the Tigers’ batters, holding them to a .200 batting average, 9/45 overall. Seth has a record of 12-5 this season, which is tied for third in the MLB in pitcher wins and first in the MLB in total innings pitched.

When it comes to young superstars, look no further than Bobby Witt Jr., Who has been playing like one of the best players in the entire MLB. Bobby is the team leader in BA (.349) which also leads the MLB, RBIs (76), OBP (.392), and hits (149). Witt Jr is coming off a game in which he reached base four times, 2/3 hitting, drew two walks, and scored three runs. His heavy-hitting teammate, Salvador Perez, leads the team with 19 homers this season and is coming off a 3/4 game with two RBIs.

Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have hit a slump. Over their last ten games, they have a record of 3-7. They are losers of four of the last five games and have a negative run differential of 14-29. Detroit has been one of the worst-hitting teams all season long. With a batting average of .231 as a team, they rank 27th in the MLB. The Tigers also just traded away Jack Flaherty yesterday at the trade deadline which means they are selling at the trade deadline. They currently sit fourth in the American League Central Division.

Detroit is still without their best offensive player, their left fielder Riley Greene. Amongst all qualifying players, Greene leads the Tigers in batting average (.264), home runs (17), RBIs (51), OBP (.357), and hits (98). Without him, they have been worse of an offense than they already were. This team is in shambles and are years away from making any noise in the MLB. They were sellers at the deadline and needed the offseason to come in a hurry to try and kickstart their reboot.

Prediction

In this game, I am predicting that the Kansas City Royals will route the Detroit Tigers. Overall, this is a bad matchup for the Tigers. I am picking the team that is in a better groove and that has shown to be the better team all season long. Bobby Witt Jr has been on fire and I expect the fireworks to continue. Since July 19th, Witt has SEVEN multi-hit games. Big-time players make big-time plays.

Final Pick

Kansas City Royals -1.5 (-102)
