Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a loss last week at home against the Atlanta Falcons. Baker Mayfield was without his two best receivers in this game. He still completed 37 of 50 for 330 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Cade Otton was excellent, catching 9 passes for 81 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Rachaad White and Bucky Irving combined for 73 of Tampa’s 102 rushing yards. One of the things to take away from last week’s loss is that they converted 9 of the 13 third downs they faced. If they can be that efficient again, they will be in a good spot to win.

Defensively, the Buccaneers have been one of the worst, statistically, in the NFL. They rank 28th in points allowed per game, 29th in passing yards allowed per game, 19th in rushing yards allowed per game, 28th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 11th in sacks, and 13th in takeaways per game. They are an injured defense though. Lavonte David and Antoine Winfield Jr. are questionable and Jamel Dean is out for this game. Massive losses for a defense that can’t afford to be worse than they have been this season.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a win last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, 27-20. Patrick Mahomes was solid once again, completing 27 of 38 passes for 262 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. Travis Kelce had his best game of the season, catching 10 passes on 12 targets for 90 yards and catching his first touchdown of the season. This offense isn’t lighting up the scoreboard statistically, but they are playing balanced, complimentary football with their rushing attack and stout defense.

Defensively, the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the NFL. They are 5th in points allowed per game, 17th in passing yards allowed per game, 2nd in rushing yards allowed per game, 5th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 21st in sacks, and 16th in takeaways per game. Led by Chris Jones and George Karlaftis, both lead the team with three sacks a piece, they are a shutdown defense against the run. They are a fast and smothering defense. This is an excellent team that is led by their defense and is in a great spot to get the number one seed in the AFC.

Prediction

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to cover the 9.5-point spread in this game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs will win, but 9.5 points is too much to swallow. The current version of the Chiefs doesn’t blow anyone out. In their seven wins this season, only two of them have been by double digits, 13 and 10. Despite being without his two best receivers, Baker Mayfield was efficient on third down which led to scoring drives. Lastly, because the number is 9.5 there’s always a chance of a backdoor cover if the Chiefs take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter.

Final Pick

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +9.5
