Key Stats
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a big-time win last week against the Houston Texans, 27-19. Patrick Mahomes was good coming off injuring his ankle last week. He completed 28 of 41 passes for 260 yards and a passing touchdown. Mahomes also added 33 rushing yards, including a 15-yard rushing touchdown.
Xavier Worthy had one of the best games of his career with 7 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. In his first game of the season, Marquise Brown had a great game with 5 catches for 45 yards. If this team gets clicking offensively, watch out because that is the question mark through 16 weeks.
This KC defense has been awesome up to this point in the season. They are ranked 3rd in points allowed per game, 17th in passing yards allowed per game, 3rd in rushing yards allowed per game, 4th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 19th in sacks, and 14th in takeaways per game. In terms of key injuries to look at, Chris Jones is questionable, as he had a calf injury that kept him sidelined in the fourth quarter against the Texans. If he can’t go, that is a big loss for a defense struggling to get to the quarterback. This is set to be a hard-nosed, low-scoring, December football game!
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a tough loss on the road to the Baltimore Ravens, 34-17. Russell Wilson was all right in this game. He completed 22 of 33 passes for 217 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. He had a key fumble inside the 10-yard line as well. Jaylen Warren was great with 92 yards from scrimmage, 48 rushing and 44 receiving. Calvin Austin III led the team with 65 receiving yards on four catches. This offense is different without George Pickens who missed the third straight game. If he plays on Christmas, that gives Pittsburgh a great chance to win this game.
The Steelers’ defense has been great all year. They are ranked 6th in points allowed per game, 20th in passing yards allowed per game, 7th in rushing yards allowed per game, 9th in offensive touchdowns allowed, 16th in sacks, and 1st in takeaways per game. If you look at injuries, Pittsburgh has a few key injuries to monitor. George Pickens, DeShon Elliot, Donte Jackson, Larry Ogunjobi, and Joey Porter Jr. are all listed as questionable in this game. We know what Pickens means to the offense, but if Elliot and either of the top two corners can’t go, then it will be an uphill battle on Christmas.
Prediction
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to upset the Kansas City Chiefs in this game on Christmas. Mike Tomlin said that Pickens has a “real chance” to play in this game and they need him. With the loss last week to the Ravens, they need to win the next two games to ensure they win the AFC North. From a matchup perspective, Pittsburgh’s defensive line should dominate this game. Mahomes has been the most-hit quarterback in the NFL. Yes, the Chiefs are the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, but I believe if there is a spot for them to lose before the playoffs, it is this game on the road.
