Key Stats
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are coming off a nailbiting win last week against the Baltimore Ravens, 27-25. Josh Allen did enough to win the game, and that’s about it. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 127 yards. Allen also added 10 carries for 20 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Khalil Shakir led the team with 6 catches for 67 receiving yards. James Cook was great in the win. Cook finished the game with 82 yards from scrimmage, 67 rushing, and 15 receiving. His numbers weren’t great but his impact was immense.
This is the best team Allen has had and this could be his last best chance to make the Super Bowl and beat your rival in their building. The Bills’ defense was good in the win despite giving up 416 total yards. They forced timely turnovers when they needed them the most with 3 in the game, 2 fumbles, and an interception. We saw this defense be very up and down in the regular season, but they have turned it up in the playoffs.
In their regular season game against the Chiefs, they held Patrick Mahomes to under 200 yards passing and forced him to throw 2 interceptions. They also sacked him twice in the win. If they are going to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, they must limit the damage done by Travis Kelce who is an all-time playoff performer.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans last week, 23-14. This game was not as close as the score permits. Patrick Mahomes was solid in the win. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown. Travis Kelce dominated and had his best game of the season. He led the team with 7 catches for 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
It is remarkable how he and Mahomes can “flip the switch” come postseason time. Kareem Hunt led the team in rushing with 44 yards on 8 carries. Hunt also scored a rushing touchdown. This is a big-game team that knows how to win in January as we have seen for 7 straight years. This has been one of the best defenses all season and it was no different to start their playoff run. Some would say they dominated this game because of their defense and I would agree with them.
They sacked CJ Stroud 8 times, hit him another 14 times, recorded 9 tackles for loss, and blocked a field goal. That is a dominating performance despite all the injuries the Texans suffered. In the loss to the Bills in the regular season, they allowed Josh Allen to have an MVP-esque performance. To keep their hopes of being the first team to three-peat, it starts with slowing down the MVP candidate.
Prediction
The Buffalo Bills are going to pull off the upset and defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in this game. I believe this is the best Bills team Josh Allen has had in his career. They play KC very well and these two teams know each other so well, having matched up in the playoffs twice in the past 4 years. Josh Allen will show up and show out in his moment to break through and lead the Bills to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994. This game will come down to the wire as all their games have. Allen gets the ball last and delivers a game-winning drive as Buffalo pulls off the upset in Arrowhead.
