Houston Texans vs. Chicago Bears Preview, Prediction, and Odds | August 1st, 2024

houston texans vs chicago bears

The Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears are the first teams to kick off the NFL Pre-Season. These two teams will play in Canton, Oh for the Hall of Fame Game.

The Texans are deemed the visitors for this game and the Bears are the home team. Since this is a pre-season game, it is a little tricky to pick a clear winner. This is why the odds are very close in comparison.

However, the Houston Texans are the favorites to win only because the Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that number-one pick Caleb Williams will not make his NFL debut. Both of these teams will have an extra pre-season game due to the fact they are playing in this Hall of Fame Game.

Houston Texans

For the Houston Texans, some of their starters are expected to play for some of the game but not all of it. Also, the Houston Texans are expected to have all their young guys play and compete for a spot on the roster. So backup quarterback Davis Mills could see a lot of playing time tomorrow. The Texan coaches are hoping to see a lot of progress in the young players and which players have learned the system in training camp to move on to the next phase of preseason.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears’ number one pick in the NFL draft this year QB Caleb Williams will not start in the first preseason game along with other starters on the team. This means that QB Tyson Bagnet will get the start for Thursday night’s game. A lot of Chicago’s young players will be playing this game and competing for a spot on the Bears team. As for the Bears coaching staff, they will also be evaluating the young players to see who can make plays, compete, and who has learned so far in training camp to move forward.

Prediction

Since this is the first pre-season NFL game it’s tricky to pick a winner. But since the Bears are not playing any starters and Williams not playing the Texans are the slight favorite. The Hall of Fame game averages around 30 points a game. So I expect this game to be high scoring and the team with the ball last to win the game. Preseason games are always hard to judge since there are new players trying to make the 53-man roster on an NFL team. This is also the first NFL preseason game of the start of the 2024-2025 season.

Final Pick

Houston Texans, -125
