Houston Rockets vs San Antonio Spurs Preview, Predictions and Odds| March 5 2024

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets (26-34) host the San Antonio Spurs (13-48) on Tuesday. The current regular-season series is tied at one apiece between these two sides. However, Houston has a couple of younger players of their own who deserve the notoriety that they have earned. Although they’re not a playoff team and maybe don’t have the ceiling that other breakout stars have, this is a team that is building toward the future. Again, despite the record, this team is positioned to make a playoff push in the upcoming years.

But for tonight, the Spurs are in form, as they are on a two-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Rockets played the Phoenix Suns in three out of their last five games and took two victories. Therefore, both teams have good-looking wins on their most recent resumes and will hope to add another one at the Toyota Center tonight.

But do you see the Spurs winning away from home, or will Houston take care of home court tonight?

Key Stats

Houston Rockets

Houston Rockets

Houston is a team that will be hoping to get a win after their brief three-game road trip. Although they face an emerging Spurs team, the Houston Rockets are favored by this margin for a reason. But they have some hope, as the latest injury news should bode well in their favor. Additionally, Jalen Green is coming off a 34-point game against the Phoenix Suns.

Furthermore, Fred VanVleet has scored 24 points in that same game and is looking to control the game from his guard position. But the most important person to watch is Alperen Sengun, who averages 20.8 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Look for him to have an even bigger impact than that tonight, especially if Victor Wembanyama isn’t able to go today.

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs somehow look better despite their overall record. But they will need to beat teams below 500, like the Houston Rockets, if they are to be taken seriously as a playoff team next year. Although they were closer to securing another top lottery pick than anything, the recent emergence of this team has people picking them to be better in the upcoming years.

However, the biggest person who has stepped up is Devin Vassell. He’s someone who can be a consistent second-scoring option. He’s averaging 19.3 points per game, but in three of his last four games, he scored over 20 points three times. Again, he needs to maintain his scoring output if the San Antonio team is going to hope to be in the playoffs next year.

Game Prediction

This game might be close, and the Spurs could be the Houston Rockets, but I don’t see the game playing out this way. Especially if Wembanyama is unable to play, then I easily see the Rockets covering the spread tonight. In order to kick the Spurs on the road at this point, they need to prove it a little more consistently. Furthermore, this team should be able to take care of business against San Antonio in Houston tonight. Maybe next year you will see this line again and say that it favors the Houston Rockets by too many points, but for tonight, this is a safe pick.

Final Pick

Houston Rockets -7.5
